They've shocked and horrified the whole of Germany apparently. According to a bloke I met in the bar at the IRL London meet last night. Was he winding me up? Anyone from Germany able to tell us what's going on? Anyone here a vampyre? If so, in what sense?

i read something like this in the guardian the other week, if i remember correctly, a german guy and his girlfriend started worshipping satan, and they killed one of their friends by stabbing him 66 times, and then drank his blood, and smaeared on the walls of their flat. when they were caught the rotting body was found in the other room in a coffin that the girlfiend used to sleep in. They looked like a couple of prime candidates for 'les enfant du sang'. one of them had shaved the side of their head to show a upside down crucifix tatoo. they said that they felt no guilt as they werent to blame , they were just following satans orders, or some such bollocks.

in related news what does everyone think of the apparent murder and dismemberment of that kid in london, that was supposed to be some kind of african witch doctor ritual.

We had three kids doing the same sort of thing in Kentucky...chopped up the parents of one of them...broke into an animal shelter and mutilated a bunch of critters. Claimed they were vampires, a la White Wolf.
Probably would have called themselves "Les Enfants du Sang" if they knew French.

I was shocked (Hmm maybe not) and bemused by the craze of Vampire clans generated off of the back of the White Wolf gaming publisher. Whatever the credibility of the content of such manuals, they are definitely struck a chord with some very confused individuals. I have had some involvement over the years with various gaming communitees, but have met such deeply engrossed types. Many who seem to be 'too' involved seem to 'mature' out of what becomes a phase.
As a cult pheonomenon, I suspect that creative writing (non religious texts, that become nu-religions) has been the inspiration for such murderous behaviour in the past. I would ove to provide an example, but cannot think of one presently. I'm sure others will be more capable.

Yeah I read this article too - I've actually got a bit of thing about vampires myself... but I'd say these people seem more Marilyn Manson than real Satanists but then I don't know the whole story.... they're saying thought that Satanism is getting bigger and bigger in Germany...I prefer Set myself but then I'm drunk...

'Vampyres' these kids just don't get it...

Incidently, these are the same types who use the bubblegum term 'goth / industrial' to describe two distinct movements that have little to do with each other....

That is, until it inspires uninspired shit like Kill Swith Klick. Oh, the agony.

As a White Wolf Storyteller/player right around the time the Kentucky thing happened, I ended up getting into a lot of arguments about the "vampire psycho" thing...it was scary how fast people--mostly conservatives and spooky-church types--latched on and started sucking it for all it was worth.
Oh...pun intended, I guess.

I think, in some way, the appeal of the Vampire mythos in particular relates to its extremely clear-cut archetypal formations...the traits of the "clans" and how these fit easily into with people's perceived and ideal self-images. Some go the tragic-goth route, or otherwise begin to blur the fictionsuit/meatself boundaries. But some people just have problems to start with, and they're compounded by the sort of violent wish-fulfillment of the fictionself.

So what exactly is the manifestation of "Satanism" in Germany? I've always found the term a bit dodgy...sort of an empty set that Christians throw really sick shit into. Went to highschool in the Bible Belt, and pretty much anything/anyone slightly different got chucked in under the pigeon-hole "Satanist."
Are we talking upsidedown pentagrams and shit music or human sacrifice and such 'n forth?

The Archons are dying to know....

Saw an article in the press on Saturday, it suggests the first victim of sacrificail murder has been found in UK. Torso of 5yr old African boy in Thames. Mumi sacrifice, head and limbs removed to make magick items and remains placed into running water. Will get more details when time is available.

Sad thing is, whenever anyone actually calls these "I'm a 400 year old vampire" claims, they're either exposed as slightly inadequate fantasisers who've got carried away with their blood-letting/edge-play, or they go down the "psychic vampire" (ie. common-or-garden patience-draining pain-in-the-arse) route.

Or, I suppose, they're actual murderers...

some people put up web pages claiming to have vampiric powers or some variant on that. others that they hunt vampires and if they haven't already some of 'em will go do it for real.

I met someone who believed they were a real immortal vampire. When I saw him outside in the sun I asked him why he didn't burn up and he gave me some crap about that being just a myth and anyway he was too strong a vampire to be burned up by the sun. I just walked off. I wonder whatever happened to that poor deluded fool.

As a RPG player, the obvious refferences to games almost scare me. I remember the D&D scare. I remember the first Vampire scare. Though I have never played vampire (it's not of my liking, the whole concept), most RPG players I have known are mentally healthy (even Vampire players). Are they taken away by the game sometimes? Yes. But that catharsis. Do they sometimes seem obsessed by the game? Yes, but so are football and N'Synck fans. I do not think that RPGs lead to those kinds of sociopathy.

On the other hand, there are the vampiric cultuists, and even fans. Not of the RPG, but of the whole vampire concept/culture. There are those that delude themselves on being vampires, and have an almost schizophrenic (hope that's the right spelling) phantasy about that; and on the most dangerous point, those that know the magic rituals and understadn magic, and know how to stimulate the vamipiric side of themselves. I recently spoke with one of them, and luckily, the whole posibility of becoming a "real" vampire shocked him out of his fascination.

I think there should be some clarification in the media, they do not have the care of clarifying if it's satanitst, demon cults, or black magic, (or even Vampire RPG players), it's just the villian of the month. Whomever is chosen to be the bad one of the game.

Deluded rpg'ers are pathetic at best. I used to DM in my early (very early!) teens. On the subject of vampires - I've no understanding of such creatures outside of Carlos Castaneda's explanation thereof.

With a sidenote that I have personally witnessed a man (to all aparrent puposes)without a shadow. He was walking in front of me for a good 300 meters while my shadow was clearly defined before me with a setting sun behind me - his was non-existant. The strangest thing is my mind keeps 'forgetting' about it. Nothing like a truama response or a 'I can't deal with this' - just feigning ignorance till heavily prodded on the subject. Strange....

Anyway.

If memory serves, Mick Mercer's big Goth book, The Hex files claimed that the there is/was a Order of the Golden Dawn style vampire cult knocking around somewhere in South London.

It sounded like the usual "sub-kabbalah-rituals-for-everthing-secret-society malarkey" but with the twist that at the highest level of magic{k}al competence was the ability to steal souls and live forever by stealing bodies.

Slightly more original than the "I'm a white wolf vampire, me" cobblers, but basically the same kind of idea. No doubt it cost money to join...

I witnessed some right fuckwits, hell they were parading on talk shows (US), about being vampires. Proper blood play people, who quoted, 'Yes it was an RPG Masquerade that first got me into Vampirism'.

Well, actually, I'm a real vampire, me. I first realized this when I started playing Vampire: The Masquerade, I was just like the people in the N'obraynah Clan, right? So me and some other kids went out and got Stanley knives and sort of cut ourselves a bit, and stuff. Then I remembered all this stuff from my past lifes as an undead, like when I got off with Cleopatra and decked Alexander The Great. And I just got, like, this compulsion to wear black, like, all the time? And I'm practically nocturnal now- I don't ever get up before 10 am, sometime not till 10:30. Well, unless I've got work. But that's okay 'coz I'm about 4000 years old now, counting past lives, so the sun doesn't affect me. I've even got my own Clan now. Look, that's my Clan Insignia right there- I drew it on my jacket with Tip-Ex. It's me and my mate Kevin, only he's called Ruthven now, and Sheila from my old RPG group who's only 19 so she's sort of like Claudia in Interview. And I've got fangs, only not at the moment because I've run out of Dentu-Grip. And I drink my lager with blackcurrant in it instead of lime. Proves it, see.

[Edited to brush away tumbleweed, stomp on suddenly audible crickets, frogs, etc, and wonder where that chilly wind has sprung from. Joke? Joke? Sorry.... ]

The thing with the RPGers though is that they don't have anything to do with vampirism, it's just today's rebellious scream for attention. They happen to have latched onto a game about weird outsiders who don't like daylight/exposure but are special (wonder why it appeals...)

As for that London thing I know nothing, but wish to know more. I for one am watching.

But what if they're only deluded in thinking their delusions to be delusional?

This is what I was being told about. Oh dear, and they claim that Londoners taught them all they knew! The UK media has had quite a field day with it; lots of dubious allusions to how they were "only following orders", i.e. Satan's!

Strange: on the telly they looked very happy despite being faced with the prospect of a hefty sentence...

23 hours a day shut in a cell listening to Sisters of Mercy appeals to some people.

As someone who has done the Vampire RPG (and werewolf, but there doesn't seem to be as many people wanting to pretend they really get dead hairy at full moon) and listens to metal and had long hair etc etc, I wish the people who connect x [where x is anything that I like doing] to satanism would just FUCK OFF! I'm not going to worship anybody because of the music I listen to!

At the same time, I'm really certain that satanists must get depressed when they read these sort of comments too...

Lord of Underworld in link to sad RPGers!

Beast that shall not be named inspired Def Leppard!

Marilyn Manson and devil shared bedsit!

Can you think of a better way to make serious satanists look like a right bunch of twats?

Er...take photographs of them?

This thing was all over the metro while I was gettin' the train into work. Ticked me off a bit.

On the other hand they did get to kiss each other before they went to prison, from the photos I've seen, which is nice.

Though hardly the kind of behaviour one expects from such darke gothick stalkers of mankind. It was a little peck-on-the-cheek thing. Now ask yourself: would Lestat just peck someone on the cheek in those circumstances? Or would he go for the full-on hands-all-over gradual mouth-to-mouth suffocation ravishment job?

I dunno: they'll happily kill some poor old fucker in his home but they can't get it together to indulge in a decent passionate bout of tonsil tennis when there's a few cameras around. Tells you everything you need to know, really...

What ticks me off is a bunch of goths scratch their mates, drink a dribble of blood and then wander around making claims to be more than human because they drink blood. I'm a vampire. I am!

Ria: Agreed!

Googled up "psychic vampirism" and found various permutations of this, as well as a Pagan-oriented take on the subject:

Are you a lone wolf? Partners don't hang around long. Does the gossip indicate that you exhaust people? Do they fade while you grow in strength? Do people avoid you? Can you swing from depression into wild animation when a group of people come into contact? Apart from having lousy social manners, an indifferent or abrasive personality, bad table manners, poor toilet training or a host of other social defects, there is the slim possibility that you may be an auric/psychic vampire.

Read the story in the Graunarid today, front page picture and all.

Oh for fucks sake, was my initial thought.

It was funny eventually on the inside of the paper they eventually admitted that the 'Vampire' Underground that the Evangelical Alliance claims has thousands of members probably only has about 100 people in it. But that was right at the bottom of the page, why spoil a good moral panic.

How many times must they push the 'satanic' underground panic, well I supposed the Paedophile panic's a bit stale.

Met one or two Vampyres in my time Live-roleplaying (well it was a vampire game I suppose), one only turned up once after finding out we didn't drink blood, the other eventually grew out of it and started wearing bright colours.

As for these two the fact that they're being sent to high security mental hospitals might give some clue to what actually caused them to kill.

This bloke who lives in a cave who they corresponded with sounds interesting, said something like you can't just hate you must have something to hate. Damm can't find his name in the on-line version. Anyone know anything about him?

Ganesh
17:27 / 01.02.02
Yeah, he's Tom Leppard (guessing his parents weren't Mr and Mrs Leppard) and he's a well-known Scottish eccentric. In the Guinness Book of Records for his whole-body leopardskin tattoo, lives in a cave. Seems a nice enough bloke, really.

I don't think the "vampire" murderers were delusional in the sense that they were ill - and I reckon it's misguided to refer them for psychiatric "treatment" on the premise that somehow their beliefs can be altered through medication and/or psychotherapy. From the accounts I've read, it seems "illness" as I understand it has never been an issue here.

I reckon it's that not-uncommon situation where two individuals with odd, disordered (and rather exhibitionistic) personalities stoke each other up to the point where they're able to commit acts that neither could/would likely carry out on his or her own. The fact that they found a subculture within which their outsiderdom could be romanticised, accepted and even nurtured doubtless helped.

What gets me is the fact that they've now linked murder with the Goth/vampire scene and, by extension, the fetish scene in general. If I were a "vampire", Satanist or sexual blood-letter, I'd be seriously pissed off with them.

This stuff's not unusual. If it's not Satan who's namechecked, it's Hitler or Marilyn Manson...
