I think it's funny that Hetfield checked into rehab for drinking shortly after Jason quit/was fired/whatever.

Gee, I wonder who was being the irrational, ignorant, domineering prick in that argument?

Somebody reanimate Cliff so he can kick the ever-lovin' shit out of what they're calling "Metallica" these days.

PS - Long live the D.

fuckabuncha metallica.

has anyone figured out why they are happy to play the download festival yet? it cant be their abject horror at the thought of there being money out there NOT going into their bank accounts, surely?
how much is lars' dignity worth?
or does he justify it to himself by believing everyone is paying for their online sourced music?

does anyone else hope that james falls down some stairs, landing on lars and breaking the drumming tycoon's voice box with his own?

Sadly, if that happened, they'd just release shitty instrumental albums instead of thier recent just-plain-shitty albums.

Unfortunately, Metallica cannot be killed. They've dealt with severe burns, a dead bass player, alcoholism, drug abuse, infighting, unamicable roster changes, and several failed attempts at re-invention. On top of all that, being in the band means that you have to deal with Lars Ulrich on a daily basis. If you believe that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", these guys must be fucking invincible.

When all is said and done, I bet they'll have been around (in one form or another) longer than the Stones.

I don't want to say I hate metallica but, I FUCKING HATE METALLICA. I'm tired of hearing the phrase "I like their old stuff." It makes me feel like a psychic I hear it so much. Whenever the question "Do you like Metallica?" is asked; I can anticipate the words tripping over the tongue and stumbling out out of the mouths of these tastless droans. Sometimes I think that some people just say that because they think they are supposed to or its been implanted in their head. Sometimes I find myself agreeing with them just to avoid a conflict. Does anyone else have to deal with "Madatory Metallica". This is when they play a non-stop block of Metallica on a major radio station. I don't really have to deal with it because I don't listen to the radio but, just the idea that something like this exists seems like madness to me.

I don't get why liking their old stuff is so evil. Metallica were the first band I really got into - at like age 10 or 11 - and I have a lot of fond memories of the music and ocassionally still listen to it. I have no interest in their new material, however, so I'm not sure what I should say to people when they ask if I like the band.

Apologies for being a "tastless droan".

They were one of my "first bands" too, and I really do like the old stuff. Cliff Burton (and to a lesser extent, Jason Newsted) is the reason I started playing bass. I bought everything they put out pre-Black Album, seen them live twice, and had two different t-shirts for every day of the week...I lived Metallica, and as cliche as it sounds, like many people, thier music helped me through some rough times.

I even defended them when they did Load. Although it didnt totally vibe with me, who was I to say how these guys should grow as artists? Sadly though, I had to admit that the music took a nasty spiral downward. I've heard some tracks off the new album, and seriously, at points it's so bad it's unlistenable! I think maybe as a musician I'm insulted because I know they're all really talented players, but they're just churning out utter crap.

And ever since they went to shit, I haven't put on a Metallica album for even a minute...I don't know why, but it's like thier current work negates thier previous work, because you finally find out that they weren't "building up" to anything, they just ended up shite.

I see this and I often wonder how artists who died at a young age would have turned out. Would people still think Kurt Cobain was a legend if grunge would have died the same way that that rap-metal phase did, or would he be seen as a Durst? What about Hendrix, Jim Morrison, et al.?
