It's a bummer fo' sure. However, that one less republican voter could make all the difference in the upcoming elections.

Here is an interview a friend of mine did with Johnny in 2000. She's a "black flag good: red flag bad" libertarian anarchist, and so's Johnny, so she got him to talk a little politics along with the music stuff.

I've met Johnny, Joey and Dee Dee at various times, and Johnny was by far the nicest, most together and "normal" of the bunch. Totally different than the guy in the movie or the books I've read about them. The big three are all in heaven now. All on separate clouds, I am sure.

(Blatantly cross-posted with another messageboard but nevertheless)

About ten minutes before reading this thread and learning this news, I stuck "Rocket to Russia" on, just on a whim.

Not remotely relevant, but I listening to Johnny Cash the morning I heard he died too. Fucking quit it, universe!!

but anyway;

The Ramones are my offical favourite band. They are the culmination of all that is good and right within the realm of popular music.

Without Johnny Ramone's shining example of the simplicity of pure greatness I'd never have felt the courage (or the need) to pick up a guitar, and I'll bet that the same thing applies to half the post-70s guitar bands in my record collection.

Also, despite the Ramones oft stated dedication to brutal simplicity, it should be noted that whilst one can pick up the riff to a Ramones song in a matter of seconds, playing it like Johnny is TOTALLY FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE. He was unique. To my way of thinking, playing with that amount of energy, accuracy and strength of purpose for an hour straight is a near-superhuman feat of musicality, and he deserved a lot more muso respect for it than he ever got.

Lest we forget, he was also an unspeakably grumpy extreme right-wing bully a lot of the time, but nevertheless..

Nice one, Riz.
I mentioned to a friend this afternoon that we now have less Ramones than we do Beatles... he suggested it could be time Ringo jumped ship.

Ringo Ramone. It'd be cool, no?
