The Case Of The Lost Baby-Doll, Urban Magick And Taxi Magick

Hello Folks, This is more of a consult than anything, so I’ll go straight to the point if you don’t mind… Appointed Priests of The City and of Lord Ixat should be more than healthily teased.

Four days ago, my four year old daughter, Kala, forgot her favorite baby-doll in a taxi. Felipe, the name she had given to the doll, has been her baby-doll “son” since she was two years old, so you can imagine the emotional tragedy we went through that day and that first night without Felipe, a tragedy of unconcealed sleep and night-weeping we are still going through to some extent as Kala keeps asking when is Felipe coming back, and looking at all the things in her life related to Felipe.

About more than a year ago exactly the same thing had happened, but on that occasion the taxi was wired to a radio call-service and Felipe was returned the next day with no worries. And before anybody asks, Kala is named after Tarzan’s ape step-mother, while it is also a name used in Pacific and Polynesia islands. Felipe… well, its a Spanish name, I don’t know why she named the baby-doll that way.

As a bit of background, some taxi drivers who find forgotten objects in their back seats and can remember or identify the passenger that forgot it -and are willing to try their best- go back to the spot the passenger got off the car and see to find anything that might lead them to him or her. The day Felipe was left in the taxi, Kala and my wife had gotten out of the car in front of a 24-hour drug store which is on the corner right across the street from our home, so that would be the first lead to stop by if the driver ever comes back to return the doll. We of course immediately advised the guys at the drug store -who know us for over five or six years- that a taxi driver might drop by with Kala’s baby doll.

Now, my thought on posting this here is that while I have started magickal doings of my own to get Felipe back to Kala and home –or better to say the magick jump-started itself- is to listen to all your ideas and suggestions in order to implement and create sinergy for the chaining of events that will eventually get things to happen as we all want them to happen –isn’t that what magick is for after all? So spit them out, I’m all ears, you won’t scare me… You Crazy and Some Already Old Magi Of This Honourable Board.

On the worldly side of things, we will be putting flyers at spots where taxi drivers gather for meal and drinks, and might also publish a small add in some sort of periodical distributed to taxi drivers, but there are still gaps that we might not reach. There are lots and lots of taxi drivers in Buenos Aires, more than you can ever imagine.

On to some aspects of the case you would like to hear about, since the day Felipe was lost, my wife has had three spontaneous dreams on different nights in which she approaches the drug store and they wave for her to show her that Felipe has been returned, and then she moves on to dream of Kala’s expression when she walks by her hand to the drug store to reunite with Felipe. Needless to say, since she was with Kala they day Felipe was forgotten, and she is a woman who as a child also had her baby-doll son, she is more than very involved in the emotional escalation of the affair.

As for myself, well, I am sad for Kala, and I have also seen and lived through my fair share of weirdness and mind tumbling-ness, so no problem in taking magickal challenges with lots of randomness in them, I’m all game for this. And who wouldn’t have liked to have a sorcerer for father?

If you ask me if I am sad for Felipe I’ll tell you this. I am not a hard-core fan of animism, but since this happened I have noticed how we had incorporated Felipe to our family daily life. You women bear with me, he was just a baby-doll until Kala forgot it in that taxi, but after these four days I am more ready to believe that Felipe has some type of awareness of his own. And this is in part related to the fact that I am seeing very sharp, 3D images of Felipe through the day and when I am falling asleep or waking up, which is what usually happens when a close friend is either significantly thinking about me or just about to give me a call.

The other angle I read into this is that of the child-abduction by goblins and fairies in the tales of yore… and of today. Its kind of obvious to say that such stories dramatize the fear of all earthly mothers to have their children lost by circumstances beyond their will and power, which is a bit of what has happened, but they do nurture the notion of magickal potencies, or entities, that can numb your mind at the right and worst moment so that your life falls down like a card-castle. And the only way to restore things is to deal with those entities in their own terms. I am not sure if I would have tied this had I not read recently Mike Mignola’s Hellboy story “The Corpse”.

Well, that’s it for you guys, thanks for listening and for the heavy reading. Lets see what you can send to this side of the world.

Hi,

That is a very interesting story!

I have to be honest, it sounds like things are already in motion regarding Felipe's return. Maybe Felipe wants to come home--that sounds creepy, but consider how much he is loved and how much he means to your daughter. I can't suggest that you do anything more except keep an eye out (and keep us posted!).

You've made me laugh for a while. Thanks for your lines. If we get the doll back -if it manages to return- I will post a picture of Felipe to give all of you the creeps.

Anybody, uhm, else? Is that a goblin raising his hand there in the back?

Just a thought, and probably a terrible one at that: perhaps you could leave something else in a taxi, as sort of offering or ransom. You know, 'hey Ixat, can I have my doll back? Here's a sandwhich/dollar/deed to my house' kinda thing. I suppose this would require a pretty strong connection to the idea of a taxi/urban godform.

Whatever you do, good luck!

Things to consider:

1. Is Felipe likely to still be in a Taxi? If not, perhaps an invocation to a saint of lost things or Hermes (transportation in general) would be appropriate?

2. If Felipe has some form of awareness, perhaps trying to communicate with him in some way would be a good course of action?

3. Perhaps this is a necessary step for Kala or Felipe to continue in whatever fashion they must in life. Worth considering, and maybe asking Felipe as per #2.

4. Do Taxis in Buenos Aires have the word "Taxi" on them? If not, perhaps Ixat's BA equivalent would be more apropos?

I've got a pretty good connection going with Ixat, actually. I've never tried anything so extensive with that godform, but I have a sidewalk slab at the end of my street linked to him and bearing his name. I'll have a shot at having him return Felipe, and if not, getting you some info, ok?

Hope I can help in some manner.

Hey, did you ever get Felipe back? I'm curious.
