Hey hoodoo peeps. I'm trying to start up a dialogue with St. Expidite and, as part of that, I'm trying to brew my own Fast Luck oil. Now, the three ingredient recipe on the first page of this thread (vanilla, cinnamon and wintergreen) seems to be the one that the internet generally suggests. But I've got a few additions and subtractions I'd like to try out, and I'd like your opinions before I waste a jam jar full of olive oil (such a thing being a terrible expense for me at the moment).
Firstly, I'm having difficulty identifying Wintergreen. I get the feeling that it's a North American herb, is it something I can pick over here? The Fast Luck recipes that Ms. Yrwonde disects on her site include Juniper, I wondered if that would work as well?
For me, Juniper is a herb of Hecate. I'm surprised about how well it fits into my mental picture of this oil. Juniper is about strange forces, magical intervention, dark spirits interfering in suprising yet excitingly dramatic ways. All a bit cthonic and midnighty, but it feels right. Anyone able to back up this bit of intuition with experience or book learnings? Or am I flying in the face of established knowledge that I'm unaware of?
Also, I've got a strong urge to add some form of mint to the blend. Spearmint if I can get it, but garden mint if not. I know it has money symbolism and sex symbolism all of its own, but I knew I wanted to add mint before I thought about why. I think mint is a good idea.
Finally, the red colour. I can order Alkanet root off the internet for pennies. But it's not a herb I know. Is it a worthwhile addition to what must, for space and budget reasons, be a very streamlined box of tricks? I don't like waste, so the idea of buying something only to use it once is a bit disturbing.
