Slightly shitty BBC pop psychology thang

Putting it here because it's probably more a 'popular appeal' thang than a specifically 'film & television' thang. Both Xoc and I did it online.

It's a grossly simplified personality test. My own knowledge of personality testing is generally limited to Eysenck and Cloninger, plus the standard, mildly-controversial categorical classification of personality disorder. This is one is supposedly based on Jung (although it seems a bit utilitarian for Jung).

Aaanyway... surprisingly (in at least some categories), I turned out to be an Idealist while Xoc was a Peacekeeper (sorry, can't emulate his score). Which means we're two competitive introverts. Hmph.

How did you score?

But I might just be awkward. Like this scene:

I'm a nurturer. Apparently.
Perhaps I should retake it when I'm more awake...

I guess I am the first Realist...but as with all tests of this type, I find that the answers rarely reflect what I would really do. Do make-shift answers lead to a make-shift result?

Well the 'bollocky' description applies to my result: Nurturer. That is so completely not me. I know it was only put up as a bit of fun... but for this little black duck it wasn't accurate!

I'm a nurturer too apparently! Don't think that's quite on the money somehow. I was aiming for wealthy gadabout but I guess I answered the "annual income" question incorrectly. Or maybe it was because I selected Australia in the first part. What was all that personal info about anyway?

Ariadne

I'm a provider, it seems. I don't want to be a provider! I want to be something more floaty and creative.
I do like the idea of living with a nurturer, mind you. Unless it just means being forced to eat Udo's oil.

Did anyone do the fake smile test? It's odd, reminds me of Harry Potter having these living photo's appear on your screen.

I got 17 out of 20 right though, so I can smell you phoneys a mile off.

I want to do the fake smile test! Where is it?!

Ariadne - you need to provide more so that I can nurture full-time. I'm tired of this work malarkey. Apparently nurturers are the most likely to choose a job where they do the same thing every day. If by that they mean surf the net, then they've pinned me down on that one.

Jack Vincennes

Nurturer also - although that involves being an introvert apparently which came as something of a surprise...

Strategist.

I have to say, I don't think that's a particularly close match to me.

But I quite enjoyed the programme. The accuracy of many of the psychologists' predictions did make me wonder about the potential scope for MBTI-style testing. I wonder what the actuarial impact might be. Could tests like these be used to better refine calculations of insurance premiums and so on? I can see it being a useful tool for understanding and improving relationships between people and types - but I'd feel pissed off if I didn't get a job becuase they were looking for a nurturer or something.

I got Realist. Parts of it seemed accurate, but others not, which I suppose is par for the course in this kind of thing.

I only got 13 out of 20 on the smiles test. And I used to work with number 9! That was a bit spooky.

I came up Mastermind, natch.

Ooooh, I got a clean sweep on the fake smile thing! I don't think I've ever got 20/20 on anything but an eye test.

Congrats ST ! I on the other hand got 6 out of 20, so I probably won't be moving to Vegas to pursue a career as a professional poker player after all.

Cheers Al.
My optimism about discerning a fake was pretty low (compared with my 'glass-is-half-full-and-sure-to-be-topped-up-soon' attitude generally), and along the way I became convinced that I was doing poorly, as I seemed to be going through phases of thinking they were all coming up fake, or all tending to look pretty real. Overcoming a guiding presumption that there would be a roughly 50-50 split, I just went with a gut instinct and, it seems, that's the way to do it.

I feel a laughable amount of satisfaction at my success.

Mrrg. 12 out of 20. That's worrying. Or maybe I just don't care?

Mastermind here as well. Allegedly the "least common personality type in the UK", though apparently fairly regularly turning up here at chez 'Lith.

Innovator.

Not bad, especially on the 'things most likely to say'.

Innovators are drawn to careers that require teaching or counselling, where they can work with and help encourage the development of others

blah blah blah...
