Sort of inspired by the feelings of hopelessness i picked up on from some posters in the George W is going to get in again thread I figured we could use a thread that neatly listed some of the many reasons why George W is bad for America and American freedom.

Domestic issues or international issues that have a strong domestic angle only please.

The acceptance speech:

Because religious charities provide a safety net of mercy and compassion, our government must never discriminate against them. Because the union of a man and woman deserves an honored place in our society, I support the protection of marriage against activist judges. And I will continue to appoint federal judges who know the difference between personal opinion and the strict interpretation of the law.

Also, brilliantly, he manages to mention "special interests" in his acceptance speech. The fucker *is* a special interest. A very. Special. Interest.

Unfortunately for John Kerry, issues such as reproductive rights,separation of chuch and state and laws regarding special interest groups are all secondary issues. For the vast majority of the American voters there are only two issues that matter and they are both tied for most important: the economy and the war in Iraq.

Unless Kerry clearly defines and differentiates his positions on these two issues he will not win the election. His positions on everything from the environment to the Patriot Act to abortion could be fantastic but it won't do him a lick of good.

Sorry if I went off topic.

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a final report to be made public Wednesday, investigators will conclude that Saddam Hussein didn't possess stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction at the time of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan argued Tuesday that the report's findings support the military action taken by President Bush, even though stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction have not been found.

"I think the report will continue to show that [Saddam] was a gathering threat that needed to be taken seriously, that it was a matter of time before he was going to begin pursuing those weapons of mass destruction," McClellan said.

But the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., said that before the war "we were told about mushroom clouds and stockpiles. Stockpiles. If we are told about traces (of weapons) and intentions, that's not what we were told before the war."
