Are friends' sisters out of bounds?

I ask because a freind's sister is going back to uni next week and my concious is telling me no...

Yeah, but what is your heart telling you? What would your friend have to say about it? How does she feel?

I don't feel there are static rules to follow here, Whales...

Only if you are part of a highly paid and whiney sextet of unfunny New York never-grow-ups.

No, no, no. Just about everyone in my family has ended up with a sibling's friend. Go ahead.

No.

Because if they were so would friends brothers, and then I'd be stuck..

Hmmm... I don't know, Whales. But I probably should since I've been on the older brother side of this issue before. Oh well. But since you brought up moral dilemmas in relationships....
What about your exgirlfriend's best friend? It's been two months since I was dumped, and even though I never thought of this friend before, she and I have run into each other a lot recently, and since my ex has left town for a few months, it's not like there's going to be that awkwardness, right? ...right?

How good a freind? Is he the kind of freind to whom you can say, "Hey, I totally boned your sister" and get away with it?

What about your exgirlfriend's best friend?

Very. Bad. Idea.

Do it if you want your ex-girlfriend's best friend to have less friends.

Oh, whatever. I'm sure you're mature enough to pick your way through the inevitable emotional minefield; you've posted on Barbelith, after all.

*cough*

If the sister is a younger sister then unless you happen to be best friends with the guy, it's going to be a problem.

It all depends on the friend.

I've been dating my best friend's younger sister for four years. We did split up once, just for a few months, and he actually talked me into getting back together with her.

However, if he wasn't cool with it, I would have never started dating her in the first place.

Again, it all depends on the friend.

The simple version in this sort of dilemma is if you have to ask, don't do it.

I'm going to have to go with almost certainly not, but it would depend on the friend.
I've been on both sides (elder brother and would-be swain) and my reaction as elder brother was very negative. However it was my friend's sister my friend didn't really mind one way or the other, though my friend was an elder sister, not an elder brother, which could account for the different reactions. More research is needed.
