Loving the trailers.

I really should see RotLD III sometime. I recently re-watched the first one and was kind of surprised by its cheesiness.

I, Zombie

Return of the Living Dead III is sort of cheesy too but it has the love story which I thought they could of amped up the horror element with the love story. Julie though is one of the unsung horror icons I think..

Everyone put down the essential zombie flicks so I put some that might have been under the radar of what the other posters put as their favorites.

My absolute favorites are the Night of the Living dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead with Evil Dead II and Brain Dead AKA Dead Alive being to the close 2nds. The serious tones of the original George Romero movies is what makes it truely horrific. The remake of Dawn of the Dead was good I thought and the dead virus 21 days later was just as good.

some others that some posters didn't pick that might be of interest are Fulci's Zombi Aka Zombie 2. I've also been meaning to check out I, Zombie but haven't been able to.

I think I need to rewatch BioZombie soon, just to see if it's really as good as I remember.

Government conspiracy, a mall, people butting heads for reasons of generational and class differences (and idiocy), wait now WTF recognition of the walking dead, and acknowledgement that the videogame generation may be uniquely trained for zombie jobs. And amidst all the teenaged wackiness, gross out humor, and death, there's some genuinely sweet moments, and some really dark ones.

I have a real soft spot for thissun:

Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue

It's a fairly mucky 70s gore flick and an ex-video nasty of mixed European progeny (Italo/Brit/Spanish and with a bizarro Irish-American police officer). I first saw it in an illicit late night zombie binge at school - alongside a couple of Romeros and an Evil Dead. What I love most about this movie is the scriptwriter's rather quaint view of Merry Olde Englande.

George, our hero, is a beardy hippy and...um...an antiques dealer. Sticking it to the man has never seemed so staid. George's clash with the aforementioned police officer provides some classic moments (including dated references to 'long hair and faggot clothes') as well as a nice payoff at the finish. Hippy Britain is portrayed as the sort of place where, even when the weather looks ultra peaky, the hippy sorts are unafraid of whipping off their clothes in the street and, like, dancing. Crazy kids etc.
Oh, and Manchester is apparently mostly fields. Spot on.

if you haven't seen it, the italian cut of dawn of the dead is really interesting. it has some footage that isn't in any other cut i've seen, it used the word "zombie" at least once, and it moves a lot faster. it also doesn't have the helicopter zombie head chop scene.

i caught it last night at an event that also had a zombie costume contest, celtic metal band, and horror themed burlesque act.

Mr. Coweatman, that event didn't have anything to with Cinema Apocalypse , did it?

Two Evil Eyes American dvd cover

More good zombie movies that might have been overlooked by others for the list from none other than the Master Zombie crafter George Romero and one from his friend and the Maestro of Horror Dario Argento, yes the director of the 2nd version of the original Dawn of The Dead! and whose brother Maestro Horror producer Claudio Argento who produced the 70's Dawn of the Dead for George Romero to continue his saga of the zombies from Night of the Living Dead!

I just got done watching [rec] a Spanish horror film that I hadn't heard of until about 3 hours ago. I've tried writing a proper post about it, but I've found it impossible to do without indulging in massive spoilers. I don't think it's been mentioned on Barbelith before, so I'll give it a day or two before I unleash my spoilery-thought wrath.

Basically, [rec] is a Zombie film in the style of Blair Witch. In parts it scared me more than a zombie film ever has, and I'd honestly say that the few minutes before the finale has only been topped by a few David Lynch films and watching my friend play Silent Hill from behind the sofa.

I don't think it's an amazing film, but, as I said, I feel an essay coming on and this is neither the time or place.

Everybody go download it, It's worth a watch.

PLEASE.

I NEED to see that film.

I just watched The Zombie Diaries, and for the most part was "well, yeah" and then at the end "okay, FUCK YEAH!". It was pretty good.

I am drunk enough that the only way I will make any sense is if you shoot me IN THE FUCKING HEAD; that way I may at least fall over coherently.

But I really, really want to see [REC] and am really, really trying hard not to download it... though I'm not gonna catch it at the movies... ah, fuck it.

Life's too short to try to catch it at the movies. There could be a zombie outbreak at any minute. I should probably watch it now, while the electricity's still on.

The IMDb quotes page for [rec] tells an interesting story in itself.

It appears to not be on Netflix, alas.

It's one of the less terrible films made my Michael Winner. Which isn't saying much, really.

Infamous if only for the controversy surrounding the aforementioned insurance salesman's casting cripples and disabled persons to represent demons and various beasties.

Not sure if it counts as a movie, as it was a TV series, but Charlie Brooker's (God, I love that man) Dead Set, about which I think we already have a thread, is THE BEST ZOMBIE THING I'VE SEEN IN YEARS. Apart from maybe Left4Dead, but that's DEFINITELY not a movei, what with being a video game.

Is that out on DVD?

And... does the pacing of the series as a series let it do things a movie can't?

I really know nothing about it - haven't even looked in the other thread, because I'm in the US.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Yeah, it's out on DVD. And the first time it was shown it was in five parts, one a night- recently they showed it as three longer episodes. It's quite long, so nothing is really rushed. Haven't tried watching it all in one go, but I'd recommend it.
