When people talk about the greatest actors of our generation, there are some key names that pop up, Pacino, De Niro two obvious contenders. However, most of the films that these actors were great in were made at a time when I wanted to be Han Solo, and the acting process was remembering lines in my school production of the little mermaid. Since then, De Niro has mugged his way through several pay-days and tried comedy (to very poor effect, imo) and Pacino has shouted his way through several roles (almost spoiling Heat in the process). Has that wonderful internal acting style of the seventies gone away for ever? Are we the public too aware of film making as a process that we detract from the art of the piece? Are there any actors around that can lay claim to greatest actor of our (or the current) generation? |
