I just happen to really really this guy's style, both in drawing and writing. The design, dialogues and expressions... enjoy while it's online:

Same Difference

What do you think of it? Familiar with?

Also from him, the hilarious if slightly disturbing (and then hilarious again) The Ten Commandments Of Simon

Kim's stuff is amazing. Highly recommended. He was just awarded an Eisner for Best New Talent or something like that, I think. I'm not sure if I've read the Gospel According To Simon thing, I'll have to check that out...

Yeah, he's great. I got the collection Same Difference a while back - a review of mine about it should be going up on popimage sometime soon. What I like about Derek is his range. He's got a good line in mangacartoony and realist, and he mixes the two up really well, depending on what he's trying to put across.

Re: the manga style. Yep. It's not my favorite pictorial style, but he manages to do it in a very nice way, for me.

I got hooked on smallstories.com. He's fantastic, yes. And the comments about his morphing style are right on -- if anyone can fuse the gooniness of cartoony comics with the crudginess of autobiographical confession, it's him.

somewhere on that site is the story about him pulling weeds that's really great.

Wow -- I was just wondering what was up with him last night. WHACK!

The story continues here as our hero clips his nails and discovers cute widdle kittens. I had forgotten about this and was going through old threads and realized 'hey, there should be more of this story now since it's weeks later!' I love this guy's art... the story hasn't developed too much as of yet.

I thought Kim was poor man's Adrian Tomine at best but I wonder what Sleazenation thought of this. Are you there Sleazenation?
