Right, so, more tedious technobollocks, I'm afraid.
Just got a wireless modem/router/etc. All good. I've configured WEP (planning to move to WPA once I move wholly to 802.11g - at present I have a mix of 11b and 11g stuff, and the router is configured for b or g. The 11g modem and my 11g laptop talk to each other perfectly happily, by and large. Sometimes, although the link-up occurs, for some reason my browser will not find web pages. Normally, this can be resolved by plugging in an ethernet cable, and when detached the wireless link functions fine.
Now, my desktop also links up fine, but again does not get web pages. I tried the same trick, but then discovered that the network bridge on my desktop, for some reason, is not working and cannot be deleted and redone. This is not the end of the world - right now I am using my desktop mainly for Diablo 2 - but it is a bit crossmaking. It doesn't seem to be firewall, WEP or anything of that ilk... any ideas? Will I have to reinstall Windows to get the bridge sorted out, or possibly uninstall and reinstall my network card? |
