Spectrum emulator?

At some point in the not-too-distant past, someone pointed me in the direction of some sort of emulator which allowed one to access and play a wide array of old Spectrum adventure games, free of charge. Somehow, I've managed to lose that URL, and am having problems finding it again. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What I know about Spectrum emulation you could write on the head of a very small needle. Is this any help? Plenty of different emus there, along with a massive index of game files.

Erm, possibly. I've absolutely no idea which one I want, though. The page I'd accessed previously specialised in adventure games, and just had the one.

Sorry. Something like this, you mean? Lets you play them online without having to download anything?

It was definitely that sort of emulator - except the one I accessed previously was specifically for adventure games (y'know the type) and came attached to an enormous database. Try as I might, I can't seem to find it again.

Best I can find is this one. It's online, like the one in the above link, but it supports a lot more games, uses more of the screen and runs at the proper speed. It's probably still not the link you're after, but there seem to be a fair few adventure games in there (especially if you click on the link for all games beginning with A - you've got Adventure 1, Adventure 2, Adventure A, and so on. Inventive titles).

Incidentally, is it just me or was the biggest challenge with adventure games trying to figure out exactly which words the parser would understand? I just had a crack at Adventure C: Ship of Doom and gave up at the second screen.

Oooh, yes, that's what I was looking for!

And yeah, the 'Adventure' series were fairly primitive, early specimens of the genre. You need to TURN HANDLE and then say YES when asked if you want to go aboard. Very clumsy.

Many thanks.

Harping on about this again, in a 'Ganesh asks techno-clueless questions' stylee. The archive E Randy found me was interesting, but a bit hit-and-miss: lots of the games wouldn't load, and I'm not sure whether this is because I haven't downloaded a Spectrum emulator (not sure how I'm managing to access some of them without one) or because the site doesn't seem to have been updated since 2000.

Also found this site, with an even more complete archive of old Speccy magic. You definitely do need an emulator to play these ones, but I've little idea how to choose between them (I've got WindowsXP, and mainly want to play the text-only schtuff). I went for one which seemed reasonable ('SPIN'?), appeared to download very quickly in WinZip form, but didn't actually help me play anything. Whether I Opened games or Saved them to my desktop first, I couldn't seem to properly open them in WinZip form.

Can anyone enlighten me?
