The Dillinger Escape Plan - "Miss Machine"

I’m blown away by the new Dillinger Escape Plan, “Miss Machine.” They moved beyond the schizophrenic displays of technical prowess on their earlier albums to writing actual songs. The influence of Mike Patton from their sublime joint EP is pretty thick, especially with the new vocalist. Dillinger’s weakness was in the vocals – Dimitri Minakis’ standard metal stylings grounded the eccentricities of the band, but sounded out of place.. Greg Puciato elasticity and range is a much better fit – he adds another instrument to the band. If this restrained and focused effort is indicative of how the band will progress, they have a bright future ahead of them.

My favourite thing by the DEP is the mysterious self-titled record I have by them, which lists 6 songs on the sleeve but actually contains 11. I don't know how it fits into their offical discography, but it is fucking amazing, by the way.

But anyway.. I was actually REALLY DISAPPOINTED by the track from 'Miss Machine' I heard on the radio the other week.. I turned on while it was playing, thought "god, sounds like some horrid nu-metal wank", and then was shocked and appalled when the DJ announced "..and that's new from the Dillinger Escape Plan". For shame!
