I think the two films actually work really well together as a piece: the first one is a really strong, lean, solid thriller (I'd call it taut and compact as well but then it would really sound as if I'm describing someone's physique), but it's the cold, bleak, unforgiving brutality of Supremacy that really elevates Jason Bourne to another level...
Is Jason Bourne better than Bond? Of course. Bond is a pampered lightweight compared to Bourne. And the franchise is obsolete, likewise. I always wondered what happened to the 'nice' Bond girls you saw him snogging on an island at the end of one movie before the start of the next movie. Of course, they die. They die because he got them involved.
I'm sure the car chase in the second film is meant to remind you of the first. The one in Identity keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it's exciting in a way that's sort of fun: wow, look at this guy, he's an amazing driver! The car chase in Supremacy is crazed and desperate, Bourne is bleeding everywhere and not quite with it as you can tell by the way he keeps smashing into things. |
