So This Friend Of Mine's Just Had A Daughter...

It struck me that out of the twenty or so people I know who've had children in the last however many years ( friends, family, etc ) in all but maybe two or three cases, nobody's had a son.

So has anyone else noticed this, that male kids seem a bit thin on the ground these days ?

And if it is part of a wider phenomenon, what might the reasons be ? Drugs in the water supply ? Mother nature in a last ditch attempt to keep the show on road, or something else ?

I was thinking about this yesterday, actually. On the way to and from work, and while I'm in town nearly all the kids about are, indeed, girls.

I think it's down to the weakening of the Y chromosome in general due to all the shit in the air, water and earth these days. Did you know if you're a bloke and you wear cheap sandals the chemicals in the soles will actually lower your sperm count? It's everything these days.

However, balancing this out - sort of - is the fact that a lot of Chinese families are still murdering their infant daughters post-birth as they think boys will be more successful in life and provide more for the family. Apparently the population balance in China is about 52%, favouring the blokes. Nice.

Who wants to go found Themyscira with me?

Nah, I know two people who've just had sons - so I'm afraid your meticulously-researched theory is blooown out of the water.

Bwahahaha. Etc.

Here's two apposing pieces of info for you:

from one point of view your not alone, even Michael Moore points ou this in his book Stupid White Men (chapter called The End of Men)

however,

in the school i teach in the current and future Yr 7 forms (these kids are about 11 years of age) there is, on average, 5 girls to every 20 boys

i dare say I'm unfamilar with Michael Moore's work, and intend to remain so, because he wears a baseball " hat. " Y'know, with glasses as well. There are some things that are simply unforgiveable.

Even though I am decidedly under 80 years of age, I've just been awarded the title "Great Aunt" due to the fact that my husband's niece has had her first baby. You know the saying about greatness, mine has definitely been thrust upon me and all this has come to pass over the birth of a boy. And he is surely a boy; no girl could pee that vertically during a diaper change and such an early age.
Still and all, I do hear of more girl births lately...
