I have been given the task of assembling a Las Vegas themed compilation. However, I have only been able to come up with two (2) songs so far. These being 'Viva Las Vegas' (either the Elvis or the ZZ Top version) and 'Leaving Las Vegas'. This leaves me with eighteen (18) slots to fill, and so I turn to you, trusty legions of Barbelith. Give me suggestions, I beg of you. Songs about Las Vegas and all it entails.

I say don't get your hopes up. Las Vegas as far as i am concerned doesn't produce great music nor does anybody sing too favorably of it. It turned Elvis into a millionair but he never got any inspiration from the town. It sems like a little hellish.

Well, there's Las Vegas Power Grid by grotus, but it doesn't portray Las Vegas in a very pleasent manner.

Didn't that Cheryl (Sheryl? Sheril?) Crow woman sing some sort of song about Las Vegas?

Oh, the Red Elvises on the Six String Samurai soundtrack did a song called "On My Way to Vegas".

Gram Parsons did a song called 'Las Vegas', I think it’s on Grievous Angel. Um, and if you’re pushed to make the full 18 tracks, enough to bend the rules a teensy bit, then there’s a fiddly little instrumental called ‘Welcome to Nevada’ on the Vanishing Point soundtrack.

Well, I'm bored as hell, so I'm puttering the web for you:

Wright Chely- "One Night in Las Vegas"
The Dead Kennedys also covered Viva Las Vegas
The Thrills did a song called "Your Love is Like Las Vegas"
Hootie and the Blowfish did a song called "Las Vegas Nights"
The Cocteau Twins did one called "Heaven or Las Vegas"
Joe Rockhead did a song called "King of Las Vegas"
Hall and Oates did "Las Vegas Turnaround (the Stewardess Song)"
The B-52s did one called "Queen of Las Vegas"
Chad Brock did one called "Livin' in Las Vegas"
Emmilou Harris also did "Ooh Las Vegas" (cover of Gram Parsons?)

And that's all I can come up with at the moment. Many of those songs are likely to really, really suck.

As for all it entails, how can you not put "The Gambler" on there?

It's a compilation about Las Vegas...how can a song be too cheesy or bad??? Thanks for the suggestions. This is looking to be an extremely eclectic CD.

If you're not worried about quality, Stereophonics have a tune called Las Vegas Two Times, for some reason...

why not just buy an album by Death in Vegas and save yourself the trouble of actually making your own compilation...

Because then I lose out on the designing of the cover, and the intended recipient wouldn't get as personal a present.

Cheers for the Grecenote search Seldom...I should have thought of that.
