Read all about it...

Is it really going to be in black and white? I bloody hope so.

I read about this last night and the quote implied that Lapham was providing layouts but not finishes - I'm not a comic artist but I think layouts are usually less than full penciled pages - depending on the finisher and the presence of of any colourist this could look very different from Lapham's other work...

the look of it hardly matters a toss though. what lapham'll bring to the party is good dialogue, interesting characters and nasty nasty violence, all of which have been missing from the regular batbooks (probably) for yonks.

Oh i think this will definitely be worth reading, just saying that the art may well surprise those expecting something similar to Stray Bullets...Something to look forward to at least.

oochy coochy - the shots up on newsarama (presume they're from 'tec 800) are fuckucking lush.

He won't just bring nasty violence - he'll actually bring THE FEAR.

Lapham can be a creepy bastard sometimes:

The terrible feeling you get when you realise the fun restaurant antics that comprise "Man or Hu-Man" occur simultaneously with Ginny's diappearance.

The shadowy car waiting for Ginny. Beth just a few metres away, letting it happen.

Blue Ed in the shadows.

"You shouldn't have come here."

And....

LIVE MUSIC!

It will be rich and dark and fun. Fucking ace news.

But will Jack Fear read it?

Hopefully it might turn on a few of the barbe-gang who only read super comics, or comics with the words "Grant Morrison" in the credits, to Lapham's work. I know you guys are unfamiliar with him, but, y'know, that doesn't mean he's not one. of. the. best. writers. in. the. industry.

Aaaargh! You understand, don't you, Jefe? MacGyver? Boboss? Sleaze? What does it take to get these krunts reading bloody Stray Bullets. Especially bleedin' Flux, who would love this book (I know, I know - I was supposed to send you the books ages ago, Matt, but I can't. They are the precious. And you have cash all of yr own!)

Yarp!

this'll probably be the best thing he ever writes though.

why?

batman.

Gotta agree on the art, it looks v.good.

Gambit: Only if Batman is yr favourite thing ever and yr incapable of having other favourite things.

Otherwise - silence, contrary ape!

well, batman is my favourite (comics) thing ever, and that being so how could i have any other favourites?

i mean if orson had had a cool costume, been a bit righteous once in a while, not got stabbed like a bitch by some cheap hood, maybe he'd be as cool as batman.

I think it will be good for his career as well, since Stray Bullets comes out so irregularly, sales on it are just horrid. I buy it in the Big Hardcovers, since I can't wait between issues, so I get big chunchs of it.

I also like that they are going to decent talent on the Batbooks, especially since Detective hasn't been for shit since Greg Rucka left and it is the main DC book, afterall.

Ahh fuck it - poor guy prolly wants some cash (don't we all. As long as I can read SOME Lapham I can't whinge too much. His handle on criminality is pretty unique, so I can't wait to see his take on Gotham's underbelly.

BUT IS IT GOING TO BE BLACK AND WHITE?

WHY WON'T YOU TELL ME?

I was disappointed when I found Bill 'the sink' Sienkewicz wasn't drawing it anymore.

But that does look very tasty nonetheless.

I promise to pick up the first Strabe trade if I like this, which I think I oughtta. Okay?

The Natural Way
16:06 / 11.08.04
Why on earth does THE FALCON need Batman to justify buying the Bullets' trades? You're The Falcon, for fuck's sake!

Hey, you trust us, right? We're yr barbe-buddies and everything?

DO IT, FALCON!

I don't think it will be black and white, but they did do a run on Detective that was duo-tone that I enjoied a lot.

Jack Fear
18:19 / 11.08.04
But will Jack Fear read it?

Why would I? I don't follow the Batman titles and I've never been a STRAY BULLETS fan—the couple of issues I read didn't do much for me, I'm afraid. This news affects me not at all.

Those monochromatic issues of Detective where great!!! it would be interesting to see that approach again, though i suspect the need for heavy blacks may work against an orange and green palette.

Spaniel
21:32 / 11.08.04
On the black and white issue.
The art is very (very)heavily shaded for a book that isn't going to be black and white.

I sooo want it to be black and white.

It's probably a fantasy.

Jack, reading an issue (or two) or Stray Bullets will not get you hooked. Ya gotta give it time.

I would Like to stress that my flatmate (v,v.new to comics) dismissed Stray Bullets after reading a couple of issues.

She has since seen the error of her ways.

The more I look at it the happier I get.

I'm with Gambit. Batman's me fave.

Lapham's baddies are going to be ace. He's wicked with the evil.

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Is that supposed to be Batman in mid-flight? It looks awfully static, looks more like Bats hanging awkwardly from the wall thinking 'I can't let go until I see some people to impress/intimidate by swooping overhead in a menacing manner'.

Spaniel
14:12 / 12.08.04
It does look a little static.

I like everything else about it, however. Must be how the Maleev lovers feel; at last I can empathise.

So that image is drawn by Lapham, I guess?

Haus of Mystery
17:09 / 12.08.04
Is that not one of the (now redundant) Shenkeeywitz images?

Spaniel
18:08 / 12.08.04
The Newsarama images are named TEC801CVR, DTC80001 and DTC80007. Leads me to believe that the first image is the cover of Detective 801 - Lapham's first full issue - and therefore possibly drawn by Shenkywoo. The other two seem to be from Detective 800, if so Lapham's the artist.

To me they all look like Lapham's work. Compare buildings and light flares.

Well, I don't really care who's drawing the bloody thing, alls I know is, I like what I've seen so far.

That sentence has to be up there with "I don't like reggae" as one of the most absurd statements ever to be put into the human language. Take a gamble on the first collected 'Stray Bullets', you won't be dissapointed. While you're at it, pick up one of the 100% Dynamite reggae comps. Mix up your cocktail of choice. Play CD. Read Stray Bullets. Realise how poorly you've been living for so many years without these things.

That last post was in response to this, by the way:

missed it off post! extended lunch break today...
