Note for Americans and other foreigners outside the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland: Preparing for Emergencies is a lovely leaflet that is being sent to every household in the UK, containing useful information about what to do in case of a national emergency (terrorist attack). The last time the government did something like this, it was at the height of the cold war. Advice on what to do if you were caught outside in a nuclear bomb blast included 'lie down'. I'm afraid the standard of advice has not improved since. |
