Alt. hip-hop tangent: mixed feeling about Vast Aire

okay. I like Cannibal Ox, they have some truly epic shit on "The Cold Vein". I also like Vast Aire. However, fairly often V.A. will rattle off a line that just makes me cringe with its lameness. I would quote a few of the lines that get to me, but i'm drunk right now and my memory isnt' serving me too well, so i would probably misquote him. Don't get me wrong, plenty of his lyrics are good, its just that some of them are shit. His delivery can also be a bit grating at times. Am I alone here?

His solo album had some nice production, but his whole delivery sounds like an a album intro. Should have stayed as Can Ox...

This could fit into the alt. hip-hop thread quite comfortably - does it need it's own?

El-P's production on the Cold Vein was so fucking classy and outrageous that it stole the show, and convinced you that you were listening to better hip hop than Vordul and Vast were capable of delivering on the mic. As far as I'm concerned he should reclaim those tracks and rhyme over them himself, it'd be a far better record.

You think El-P would have delivered better rhymes? Hmmm. See I think 'The Cold Vein' is a reaally nice synthesis of producer and MC's working together. I like the way the tracks have been built around the lyrics. But I agree that El Producto gave away some of his finest beats to Can O, and shoulda saved them for Fantastic Damage (which I find to be proggy and over-cooked).
