hello b'lithstars, tis my first topic so hope the formalities are fine...
this is just a wee research plea concerning the a friends 'costume design' assignment, and i quote her ideas as:

"the banquet......1850s to 1900s.....we all got given a character......though mine sounds just like...me.....dishevelled, pungent smelling, all her clothes need mending, none of her layers of clothes match......she drinks at the tavern, and sleeps in the gutter.....and my fishmonger fancies a bit of the butcher...char-yum..so it should be fun, theres bankers and merchants and wenches and chinese traders and minstrels......

so...
I am thinking, Peter Greenway, Hob Gadling sandman, Vivian westwood, alternate Victorian realities, fishblood dye with a bit of mutton gravy highlights....she studies in the South Island of New Zealand, so research data potential might be a bit limited, but has this style got a name/philosophy?

thanks in advance for all your ideas.

Sounds like fun but I don't think it has much to do with suffragettes...

I think the Vivienne Westwood alternate reality idea is the best bet. Make sure she wears stripy stockings.

true kk, suffragette was maybe the wrong word. i was probably thinking of a strong lassie, defining her rights, in a meat mist tavern.
totally brave and bucking in her nature, showing in her clothes.
and bowie, of course

There's only room for one and here she comes
Here she comes

and stripy garish stockings will pass it on, sounds great
thanx
