I quit my job today
I quit my job today
Today is the day
That I quit my job

Hooray!

Yes, I gave my notice at my job, and now I've only one more day left! Whoo! No more early mornings. No more selling/customer service. No more cleaning up. No more nametag.

I quit my job today
I quit my job today
Today is the day
That I quit my job

my dad recently quit his part-time job (not his full-time one at a company he's been with for over 35 years, thankfully) by saying, "take this job and shove it." literally. like a country song!
anyhoo, congrats, cat's.

Hey thanks everybody!

Yes, Stoatie knows the score: I start a new job on Tuesday. So I get tomorrow off, work my last day on Friday, and then get a three day weekend. Whee!

And TeN, I've been unemployed in the past, and I really enjoyed it. I found that if I filled my time with meaningful things/activities, then there was no depression about not having a job.

But good on ya, tci! Hope your new job suits you better, too!

You go baby!

This has to be one of my top seven fave things to do. Quitting a job then posting on Barbelith about it! Some of my best threads...

Actually quitting jobs I hate always brings to mind that 5 song "Woke up today with this feeling, good things are coming my way..."

Congratulations.

There are very few things as self-empowering as validating to yourself that you do not need to centre your life around someone else's shitty bidding.

Whenever I've quit a job I've always enjoyed that period of watching my employers come to the realisation that they didn't really know quite what I did for them and weren't sure who the hell was going to do the stuff they did know that I did when I left.

It's true that no one in this world is indispensable, but you can certainly make yourself irreplaceable.

D00d, the opposite always happens to me. I'm all like I'll show them. They are going to miss me sooo bad. Maybe they will cry.

...and then they are all just shrugging it off and employing someone else and life goes on.

Bah!

The best feeling in the world is that 5 minutes after you have just quit a shitty job when you walk outside into the sunshine and the realisation that you will never have to work there again slowly sinks in. You then walk down the street whistling and all is right with the world.

It's all in the timing. When my boss was shouting at me, I walked out and left her alone in the store with an eight-hour shift to wash down the eight-hour shift she'd just finished. Served her right, too, the self-centered corperate ass-monkey.

I remember when I got sacked years ago by a real anal-retentive who was sacking anyone who was close to working for a year (and thereby actually getting something akin to workers rights at the mcjob). He tape recorded all meetings and I really wound him up by nodding when he asked me if I understood what he was saying (basiaclly you are sacked, and won't be required to work notice) we sat for a good ten minutes with him trying to get me to vocalise a response for the tape machine, and me nodding and grinning wider and wider.

Oh yeah baby!

I love that feeling and I'm looking forward to soaking up every last bit of it tomorrow at 3:00 pm!

Nice one. Congrats.
I never found unemployment boring, just got fed up of the thanks but no thanks letters.
To often I find myself mentally writing my notice.
I've recently been talking to a firm that does similar work so fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll be able to work it so that I leave after they send me to Canada!

While your over there can you tell some of those non-posters to come over to the conversation forum?

Oooh it's so tempting. But I'm in a bit of a muddle about my job. I love my employers- thats good. What my job is is fine and dandy. I love living in this house, and all the good stuff that goes with au pairing- raiding cupboards for free etc. But the summer holiday have jumped on me, and I'm quickly growing to loathe one of my kids. It's not a particuarly lovely situation to be in, with someone you just want to kick a lot of the time, but with all the lovely good things about it, I know I'm gonna stick it til October anyway. The Summer holidays have never seemed so long.

I'm jealous of anyone who can be arsed to quit.

I quit my job a couple of years ago on a whim with nothing to replace it in the offing. I loved being unemployed apart from the lack of money and the endless rejection letters.

Eventually I went back to my former employers but with a bit of a promotion and a payrise. They couldn't function without me and yet I still feel underappreciated. Maybe I should just quite again.

I'm contemplating quitting my job in a few months' time and it scares the piss out of me, to be frank. For a start it will also necessitate me leaving the country, since I can't legally work in the US outside of this job, and I hate being unemployed - with nothing to do I just drink, and I don't have any big non-work projects to focus on right now.

If anyone knows any good, interesting London-based jobs for programmers with database and web skills and a great line in corporate bullshit, please please let me know.

It's best to keep two jobs. That way you can quit, have the joy of quitting, and have no unemployed blues. I missed my part time job on a monday, then I played a poker game late monday night into early tuesday and decided I'd rather keep playing poker.

Don't worry meme, I've been checking my toilet for explosives ever since I put in my notice.

GOPHERS!!! Hey man, I was thinking of you earlier today (and feeling a tinge guilty about not getting back to you yet). Thanks for the nice sentiments. If you get back to Canada, would you be trying for a place in Alberta again--Calgary even? That would be cool.

As far as my unemployed periods, well, they've always been my choice, so I never really have had to deal with rejection letters. I've never found it hard to get a job if I wanted one. Like this time I applied at five places. Heard back from one, but I never got back to them, the other three were no responses, and the fifth one hired me after a short interview conducted at the same time I took in my resume. Although, I guess I haven't aimed for any "high profile" jobs...

Hi Cats.
If I'm still in this job I'll be out in Alberta for a week or so in the autumn. I'm hoping to take time off whilst I'm out there to look round Calgary, the MEC and Joey Tomatos.

Fridgemagnet have you tried this site? it's quite good for database jobs, there's normally loads in the London area.

Hi all.

I handed in my notice today, after being offered a job in Recruitment: longer hours, less basic pay, have to wear a suit.

However.... don't have to come in and do exactly the same fucking job I've been doing for four years!! Will meet new people and get to do new things. Will be making more money after three months with their commision sructure (hopefully).

Am so glad to be leaving. My boss's face was a picture. Best thing is, there are 3 "senior" people here, one handed their notice last week, I did today, and another one is doing it tomorrow. My boss is going to be gutted. Bless her.

Anyway - just thought I'd share my excitement with the board. That is all!

Not alot to be honest, I've applied for goodness know how many jobs and hopefully either by the end of this month or the beginning of next I will have a new job then I can tell my boss to shove his job up his...er resign nicely.
Actually I don't have a contract so I don't have to even give 2 weeks notice. Hmmmmmmm that's so tempting, walk out and leave him in the brown stuff. Especially as over the weekend we had a major leak in the studio, guess who was left to see if the lights would work without blowing up? Not him thats for sure.

What do you do? I mean, what kind of thing do you want to get into. Having done the whole interviewing thing recently, I've got it all down pat if you want to PM me for anything specific.

Currently I'm a studio manager/photographer but I'm actually looking for jobs in admin/accounts now. Due to having (read *dump into*) the managers job for a long time I am good at accounts and have since found out I can get better paided for that type of work. Also working for sociable hours now be nice too. I know there's a few people on barbelith doing bar work, and compared with their hours I shouldn't moan but working six days, plus late on Fridays, Saturdays and the occasional sunday are beginning to bother me.

As my wages are quite frankly crap, I can't afford to without a job to walk straight into. Hence the frantic posting of cv's to employers.

(BTW for any employers out there, a letter of rejection is actually better than no response at all)
