Fun with the 9/11 Commission report

Are terrorists pirates?

After somebody on LiveJournal posted something about this, I found a site with the full text of the 9/11 Commission Report on it.

The great thing about government reports online is that they're searchable by keyword, and you can never be sure what you might find.

1. Go here, to the pdf of Chapter 6.

2. Hit the little "find word" binoculars icon.

3. Type in the word "ninjas".

Oh, yes. Our elected officials are really like that.

This needs to be moved to Conversation, so we can ponder such vital issues as "Who would win in a three way battle? Ninjas, pirates, or terrorists?"

Obviously, the terrorist ninja-pirate viking would win. duh.

Well, we know which way President Clinton's vote would have run.

Anyone else find anything random and beautiful in the report?

just out of interest, how did you find this grant? have you been searching random govt. reports for mention of pirates or ninjas again?

To be fair, I think one of the special ops squads does get called The Ninjas - alongside Delta, SEALs, and so on. So it's not a totally off-the-wall thing to say...

how come my airborne ranger friend has no idea what the heck they are then?
too secret for him to have heard of?

what is it the ninjas do?

micah wright?
no he isnt.

is this the beats thread?

maybe i should have put it differently...

you are saying there are 'ninjas' in special forces. your language use confuses me as to whether this name is given to a group who operate alongside the conventional special forces, or is a name given alongside another more comoon name.

if you are suggesting the latter, could you please clarify for me which group you believe to be called this? possibly expanding on how they got the name would be of interest.

if, however, you are suggesting the former, i would like to suggest that i believe you to be in error.

the initial evidence for this would be anecdotal, baing the related experiences of a friend.

i have since googled, and can find no reference.

Well, if you could find ninjas by *googling*, they wouldn't be very good ninjas, would they?

A friend of a friend on LJ is actually reading the report cover to cover, and couldn't help but quote the passage.

I thought this might be more of a fun presentation.

I did download it and have a search for "pirates", "candling" and so on, but I must admit I couldn't find anything better than the ninjas.

I think one laugh per report is pretty good going really.

Yeah, it's not like you'd want to see Colin Powell brandishing the report at a press briefing and saying "I laughed. I cried. It became... a part of me."

And a solitary tear marches a solemn parade down his cheek while a million flashbulbs explode in homage.

Toksik, that was way snotty.

To clarify, I believe members of one of the hard ass units in the U.S. military get called, or like to call themselves, 'ninjas'. I don't know which one, and I really don't care enough to find out. In this case, though, it sounds to me like a generic usage for any facemask-wearing SpecOps unit in black. If you're interested, buy a book.

whoops.
from your post, it seemd like this was a recognised name for one of the main SO groups.
now it seems you are saying that and saying sometimes guys who wear black and know martial arts get called ninjas, which i guess i had already noticed.

i'm sorry you got upset at the snottiness of the post. i was being overly clear in response to my friend being called a liar and a fraud by sleazenation.

i did think my original question was fine, but obviously not.

i'll now go and talk to some one who cares enough, or possibly read a book, as i am genuinely interested in whether this is a recognised term for a specific group or just a nickname.

sorry i pissed you off.
