Plug AND call for submissions

Okay, well, I've been a member of Barbelith for like...ever now (about eight whole months), so I no longer feel like a random spammer mentioning my little serialized fiction website, which is at www.frontierpublishing.net . And, y'know, even though some of my own work is there, I'm not even plugging my own story, but rather that of someone who posts to this forum kind of a lot (but whose real name I'm not sure I can spill, so I won't, but with any luck he'll see this and reply to gush over the brilliance of the site in general, and his own story in particular...no false modesty here!). Anyway, said story is called "Movement and Repose," and -- since, like I said, the author has plugged his other work here bunches of times -- I figure it's only appropriate that I direct anyone interested to this story as well.

Frontier pretty much exists for the entertainment of the writers and a veritable score of readers -- like, really, a veritable...score -- but we've managed to pull in a few kinda sorta well-known ("known," anyway) people here and there, we've managed to put out a book that's doing kinda okay, and we have some truly kickass designers doing art for us (one of them is also here, and should say something should he see this, just so I don't feel all abandoned and stuff).

Thing is, as one of the editors, I've felt for a while now that the pool of creative types at Frontier is getting a little incestuous. I love everybody who's there, but I feel like we need some new blood...new writers, new readers, new people in general. I'd really, REALLY like it if some of the people who post here were to submit work, because there's some folks here who are scary talented. (Not to slight anyone else, but if Whisky Priestess were to send us something, I would weep with pleasure.) Frankly, I can promise you guys...um...nothing? But we're working on getting to a point where the site's seen by enough people that payment might one day be somehow remotely viable. (At present, the site actually costs myself and the other two editors money, but not so much it's really a big deal.)

Anyway, it's been a long time coming, this whole thing with me building up the courage to mention the site here, but I just kinda have a feeling now is the right time. The submission guides are up and pretty straightforward, if anybody feels so inclined. Thanks!

Here's the url for Frontier Publishing.

That's my story Eddie Thirteen is plugging and I appreciate him doing it. I think for me I've felt comfortable telling Barbelith posters what I'm doing since I've been posting here on and off since, what, 1999 maybe? This is a great community full of interesting creative people from all over the world, and I get a buzz just from the energy around here.

But anyway my story Movement and Repose is part of an anthology that Eddie Thirteen edited called Noir. Frontier Publishing puts the anthologies out two or three times a year I think, and each one is thematically linked. The next one is called Witches and they're accepting submissions for it right now.

I'm not on staff, I'm just a freelancer, but I like Frontier Publishing because these guys are out there doing it. No, they're not a paying market yet, for which E13 was overly apologetic But they're not a zine either. They're building something, they've already moved from online into print, they do tours, signings, and radio appearances, etc. It's growing. Am I used to getting paid for my writing? Yes, fortunately. But they're a good group of people to get involved with and hey, it's a credit, right?

Also I can't resist pointing out that Eddie Thirteen has an excellent short story collection at Frontier called Wicked. In particular his story "Scary Girls" is a nasty gut-wrenching little number that is worth checking out.

If anyone has a chance to read this stuff we're talking about, please post some comments in this thread. Frontier has a forum as well. Thanks everyone!

I should send a story over soon. It's been ages since I wrote anything other than website copy or comic book scripts!

In the meantime, check out my similarly 'no money involved creator-owned' deal which a few Lithers are involved in.

Zebra Magazine, a sci-fi anthology project.

Yeah, I've been to Zebra from the other thread. Kobuta in particular stands out. The art and writing have the feel of something that might appear in a Top Shelf anthology.

Echoing what Topper said, except for the stuff that's about me, which kinda just makes me get all flustered. I also think Zebra is cool, and would submit there myself if I could, you know, actually draw and things like that. Very cool work, you guys.
