Ghost In The Shell: Stand-Alone Complex

It won't be a total surprise for me, as I had a chance to see the first four episodes of this series at the Anime CENtral convention in Chicago earlier this year, but I still can't wait. The Tamakotchi Days shorts at the end of each episode are drop-dead hilarious (even better than the Omake Theatre shorts at the end of Blue Seed episodes), and the opening/ending themes are damningly catchy. Oh, and the episodes themselves are really good, too. Killer geisha girl androids are always a good time!

Warning - do not see Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence

I´ll use this thread, because I don´t want to start a new one on Ghost in the Shell.

Today I saw Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence. The movie was incredibly boring. It was a mix of anime like captain future and 3D art. The story was non-existant.

Of course, there was a basset (like in avalon). The basset was the best bit about this movie, and it was the only thing that provoked a reaction from the audience (the theatre was sold out and packed with 600 people).

So, stay away from it, or rent it on DVD, if you´re curious.

Conversely, I thoroughly enjoyed Innocence. I was hooked and involved right the way through. I'll need a second viewing to extrapolate on that, but I was planning on doing that anyway. Maybe with a second and third viewing to boot...

haven't seen Innocence, but I've been watching Stand Alone Complex on Adult Swim sporadically (i.e. when I'm sober enough to remember it's on). It's brilliant. I love the music, the animation, the stories- pretty much everything about it. Unfortunately, I think they've cancelled it, because Cowboy Bebop seems to be in it's slot these days. Nothing against Bebop, it's one of my favorite shows ever, but I've seen every episode at least five times.

I may have to go DVD.

i think i may have liked Innocence better than the original.

heresy, i know. burn me at the stake.

it's certainly better than Stand-Alone Complex, which, don't get me wrong, is quite good, but not Innocence-level good.

The series actually reached its conclusion on Adult Swim, according to people I know that watched it. I have the dvds, so I only kept track of it sporadically.

As an update, I understand CN has picked up the next 'season' of the GITS tv series. Can't remember what it's called, but I understand that the new season is more along the lines of the first movie (i.e., "What does it mean to be human?" type of content) than what Stand-Alone Complex was.
