I wasn't quite sure if this belonged in comics or film, since it cuts across both, but today's Globe and Mail newspaper has an article/interview with Cameron Stewart: Here's one guy who doesn't like a sexy Catwoman.

Bugmenot.com provides a user name/password of "bobdoeles / bobby" for the site.

Aside from the rather appalling headline, it's not a bad article, actually. The last two paragraphs particularly caught my eye:

Of growing concern to Stewart is a new trend in the comic-book world. While hesitant to name titles, he says many revamped comic series and new characters are being produced to cater to filmmakers.

"I think a lot of comic books are being made to appeal to Hollywood studios -- they're being written and illustrated as a film pitch," he explains. "They're writing comic books in anticipation of what can be done on a film budget . . . as a result you get superhero comics that aren't quite as superhero any more."

I thought the pre-Paul Gulacy Catwoman as drawn by Messrs. Cooke, Allred and Cameron was plenty sexy, just not trashy exploitative sexy.

Who are Cameron's studio-mates?

(I'm sorry for that random-ness, I was too enthused by the possibility of saying "robots!" which was, oddly, the first thing that came in to my head.)

Royal Academy of Illustration and Design is the studio Cameron's with. Nice guys, great artwork. I'm a big fan of Kagan McLeod's "Infinite Kung-Fu"; Ben Shannon and Chip Zdarsky are the other members.

How strange -- that article totally read like something from a comics-specialty publication, not a mainstream newspaper. Are they very comics-hip at the Globe&Mail or something?

The Globe and Mail would be one of Canada's national paper and on the weekends I find it refreshing to read because its columnists just tend to know what they're talking about. Yeah it's pretty good Grant.
