no

there was this huge monolith and this monkey touched it

next thing he has a bright idea.........he kills a pig, beats the brains out of a competitor and starts eating meat

he then evolves (or devolves) into Ted Nugent

I think this will only really become an issue if its offspring walk upright also. But really interesting if the demand the return of "Brighteyes".

I don't really know enough about primates to bring much to the table on this one, but I have to say, it's one of the most interesting things I've seen in a long time, especially in its possible ramifications for evolution.

Or it learns to say "NO!" But if it wants to conquer Century City (Calif.), it's more than welcome.

Of course, the real question is can it say "Kill for Krushchev"?

Look, everyone. Apparently they've renamed him Lamarck.

Lamark? What the hell's a Lamark? Sounds like either a cheesy sports car or a cheap printer.

gentlething: Shhhhhhhhhurely you're thinking of Lysenko? After all, Lamarckism--as actually put forth by Lamarck--isn't entirely incompatible with evolution as we understand it--although it does have a hefty God-trip built into it, and has been distorted by the so-called "Intelligent design" folks...

I was so fascinated by this story that I had to write about it for the geeknews feed I'm editing.

it'll be interesting to learn how this will unfold; I guess Natacha has to undergo more tests in order to be determined what actually happened...

and I was thinking: what if the stomach infection left her with a constant pain that only goes away if she walks like that? and what happened to the other infected monkeys?

Shhhhhhhhhurely you're thinking of Lysenko?

Eh, yeah. Probably. I dunno, I'm a humanities student. Whee, art.

after a near death experience

Grrr. People keep using this term incorrectly (I'm looking at you, Sky One). A near death experience isn't what happens when you nearly die, it's when you actually die and are brought back to life.

Still, upright monkey. Neat-o. Wonder how long it'll last. Walking, I mean. Not how long it'll be before anti-evolutionists bash it's brains out in the middle of the night.
