Tailored Jeans?

My favorite jeans have given up the ghost. They just passed the 'really comfy' stage and have entered the 'disintegrate when washed' stage.

So I was clicking around froogle, looking at all the weird Diesel jeans, wondering which ones I wanted, when it occured to me I could probably, given this electro-aether-web, buy a nice pair of jeans and have them tailored - inseam and so on - instead of going to thrift stores and just getting used to the idiosyncracy of how my new jeans almost fit.

Anyone know how to take measurements? Where to get clothes altered online? Has anyone tried this?

As far as I know, jeans are pretty difficult to alter. The stitching is designed to be durable, so ripping a seam and re-stitching would probably cause more damage than anything else. I guess you can hem them if they are too long, but that would seem to be about it. As for trying to find a website that you can send jeans into for alterations, you'd probably be better off looking for a dry-cleaner near you. It'll be cheaper and faster.
