Press Release: Jonathan Ross / Grant Morrison at Comic Festival

JONATHAN ROSS TO INTERVIEW GRANT MORRISON AT
LONDON COMIC FESTIVAL

Having made a brief but fleeting appearance at the first event last
year, when he and his son Kirby went round the dealers hall
buying something from virtually every self-publisher's table,
Jonathan Ross has agreed to make a formal appearance at the
second London Comic Festival on October 23rd.

Jonathan will be interviewing Grant Morrison, making his first
Comic Festival appearance since 2002, asking questions set by
you the readers.

Simply email your question to Grant Morrison, free via
comicfestival.co.uk, and Grant promises to try and answer as
many as he can live on stage.

Other highlights of the London Comic Festival include
appearances from DC's Editorial director Dan DiDio, who will be
looking at your portfolios, and Powers creator Mike Avon Oeming.
Publishers in attendance include Tokyopop, Titan, and the
Dandy & Beano, with a raft of 2000AD creators, every small
press publisher in the country, and a presentation by our very
own Dez Skinn on the subject of Comix - The Underground
Revolution.

Tickets are just £5 in advance (£10 including the Grant Morrison
interview) from comicfestival.co.uk

After the false rumours surrounding the Bristol event, it looks like GM actually has been confirmed this time.

Jon Ross actually came to the last London event with his son - walked around seeing what everyone was publishing and buying stuff for his kids.

Yay! I've always been fond of ol' Ross...

Shit, I really should have picked that book up Bristol! I need to learn how to use my memory.

Are you omnipresent at comic festivals, sleaze?

sleazenation
22:41 / 19.07.04
Pretty much.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!
22:51 / 19.07.04
Clearly you should have your own festival comic/guide/omnipresent action-adventure tale available at each event.

Uh, yes, anyway... what to ask George? Who's looking after his cats?

Triplets
23:47 / 19.07.04
George, is Chubby actually Seaguy's penis?

I hope he asks about the relevance of King Mob's raunchy romance with Ragged Robin, and whether it really was related to a real life relationship.

Flyboy... No More !

That was based on George's relationship with me.

There are some people on this board who would like to think otherwise, and I pity them honestly, those poor deluded souls, but it was based on his relationship with ME, all right ?

Though I do have to admit, all that stuff about being sent off into the future in a dodgy time machine rather hurt, at the time.

Personally I think it would be better just to allow Ross to adopt his own interviewing style, rather than asking questions sent in by us...

'So, Gwant, you got mawwied wecently, I believe?'

'Och aye, that's right mon.'*

'Well, I'm not sure how to bweak this to you, but your wife may not be being entirely faithful to you.'

'Whut?'

'I'm not actually accusing Kwistin of adultewy, you understand, but she was definitely looking at me in a more than fwiendly way earlier, if you take my meaning...'

'Eh?'

'Gwant, your wife wants me. I can't put it any more simply than that.'

*for purposes of this joke, given that I am taking the piss out of Wossie's accent, Grant Morrison has been transformed into Groundskeeper Willie.

Dan Fish - @Fish1k
10:43 / 21.07.04
Jings!

Actually, Ross IS a master of accents, so maybe he will throw in a few "Hoot! Crivvens! HelpmaBoab!"'s into the conversation to put GM at ease.

I suspect the "submit your questions" thing is mainly to reduce work involved - TV interviews require researchers, etc.

My question got picked! I just recieved an email!

The Natural Way
14:38 / 22.07.04
Alright, I'll bite, what was yr farkin question?

Aertho
15:27 / 22.07.04
I wasn't baiting, just surprised.

It was a fairly easy one, basically about NXM and his thoughts on conceptual and transpersonal value memes. I've been orating on how all the adversaries in NXM have been directly analogous to Spiral Dynamic value memes, and that Sublime and Phoenix correspond to the Coral and Teal levels -both of which have very little written about and aren't even considered potential human levels of consciousness. I wanted to know Grant's thoughts on that, firstly whether he designed the adversaries to be like that, how he generated completely conceptual values, and his thoughts on the read-between-the-lines message that "evolutionary stagnation" is the real ENEMY of all-that-is.

Hopefully it'll inspire another tirade into his personal mythology and thoughts on eschatology.

I reckon ... blue.

Nice one, Chad. I think that question'll crack Ross up.

Maybe it'll lead to a massive fight between you and Ross!

Excellent!

I hope so.

GRANT MORRISON QUESTIONS

Do we have any more questions you'd like to ask Grant Morrison at the Comic
Festival on October 23rd (to be put to him by Jonathan Ross)? Get them in
now if you have.

Detailed and arcane questions about recent titles are thin on the ground at
the moment. And no-one's given us any questions featuring any particularly
juicy scandal or libel. Please, don't hold back. The worst that could happen
is he gives you a rubbish answer.

Email questions to grant@comicfestival.co.uk
or you could fill in the little
form on the website, either way they end up on the same big pile.

I remember reading somewhere that King Mob's relationship with Ragged Robin was actually a hypersigil reflection of Grant Morrison's real life relationship with Spuggy from Byker Grove.

Is this totally a joke or what? I assume Byker Grove is a band, but I've never heard of them or Spuggy. Must be a London thing...

Byker Grove is (was) a kids drama, kind of like Degrassi Junior High I guess, set around a youth club in Newcastle, it ran during the late 80's, early 90's, and launched the career of several brit entertainers (Ant 'n' Dec, Donna Air, google should bring up plenty for those).

I guess Spuggy must have been a character in the show, not sure what the Morrison connection is though. I suspect it was a joke.
