Fucking Firewall!

I just installed Norton Internet Security 2004 and when the firewall is turned on I can't access the internet.

I've been fiddling with the settings but no luck. Between this and my goddamn DVD player which is stuck on 16:9 (and I can't find the original remote) I'm seriously considering trying to fix all the home electronics with a baseball bat.

Any ideas?

Fuck Norton off and install Agnitum Outpost Pro and avast! antivirus.

I used Norton for years until I cam across these absolute gems. Highly recommended.

Not sure of a more immediate solution to your problem - have you turned off WinXP's built-in firewall?

Yeah, I made sure that was off before I installed Norton.

You could always try manually granting your browser unrestricted access to t'internet, rather than waiting for Norton to ask for it...

Quite how you do that I'm not so sure any more (Program Options, or something similar springs to mind)...

It sounds like the security settings are too high and it's not letting anything in. Find out where these settings are and turn them down, that should solve it hopefully.

Right click the icon Norton icon in your task bar.
Go to Norton Internet security.
Click on the personal firewall box.
Click on the configure button on the LHS.
On the Firewall tab set the slider to medium.
On the Programs tab make sure Microsoft host processes have a setting of automatic.
Make sure explorer is set to automatic (or whatever browser you use)

Cloned Christ...fuck it, how do you people deal with these unwieldy username? You can be CCOAH for now. *cough* Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, CCOAH is bang on the money, Norton and MacAfee used to be decent packages until recent years whey they decided that their products just weren't big enough, that their customers somehow required more girth before they'd be satisfied. Now when you want just a simple virus scanner or firewall you instead get a massive bloated piece of shit that comes with so much crap and resource overheads that you're probably better off with a trojan or virus. Size isn't everything and especially not in this case. I want a virus scanner, just something that scans for viruses y'know? Do I want or need something that will allow me to trace packets across the interweb? No, do I fuck, if I wanted that I'd have fucking well downloaded it and installed it you complete cocks. Christ, I've went off on one again, that does seem to happen a lot these days. So, I'll cut to the chase: uninstall Norton and stick on ZoneAlarm or CCOAH's suggestion. If you're using their virus scanner as well then ditch it and stick on Avast or AVG instead. You know it makes sense.
