'Preview proposed edit' button

Having one of these would be many useful, Tom. Each time I moderate a post to fix some broken HTML there's the possibility that I'll stuff it up even worse (or differently) than it was originally. The only way to double check a proposed edit at the moment is to open up another window, go into any thread and preview it as a new post. Takes ages, especially with the board slowing down again.

I know it's not just me. Every now and again I'll have a proposed edit to an HTML-iffy post sitting in my inbox waiting for my vote, with the suggested change not being any better than the original.

This should be a relatively simple change, yeah? More or less just taking the current preview post button and adding it to some other pages?

I concur. I'm usually okay with HTML, but I get a lot of edits requested to a new version that's still broken, and I think it would be helpful for people to have a preview so they can check.

I seem to remember that a couple of mods have stated that HTML fixes are quite common.

Yes, sounds like a good idea -I currently check edits that I think might be wrong by copy-pasting them to an html file on my desktop. And my edit's not always right, and I'm painfully aware that it's a kind of dorky thing to do, so I'd certainly use a preview button.

Yeah, speaking as a Convo mod, every time someone starts a picture thread we normally have to do a bit of work to shrink pictures down to reasonable sizes. As it is I cut and paste between the mod box and a post box so i can see what it looks like in 'post preview' but it's less than ideal...

Would it be excessively slowing for all posts to be previewed before posting?

TSK, I've been on a board that did that and it ended up being very irritating -even with an automatic preview it's easy to get into the habit of automatically clicking 'Post' on the previewing screen without actually re-reading what you're going to post. It'd probably help with stuff like unclosed link tags and images which are obviously stupidly massive, though.

Generally the idea. Grammatical work is unlikely to be noticed until after the fact.
