Magick as a means for self improvement.

Ok then, keeping this down to the simple gut of the matter, how have any of you used magick as a means for self improvement? Lets put aside the usual stuff like speaking with the higher guardian angel/self, trying to get some money, spiritual enlightenment, love and attraction. I'm refering to doing specific workings or what have you for things like losing weight, learning a different language, becoming more organized, inspiration, etc.

Specifics are good too, say you invoked Joe Louis to become a better boxer, or called upon Bacchus to be able to put on a brilliant party, or even called upon Chef Boyardee to become a better cook (ok, there are probably better ones for that, but you get the idea). Since improving oneself can cover a lot of ground this might seem a bit vague, and well, it is. How about everyone here make it more specific?

I think I do a lot of things that might be classed is magical without really thinking about it ie. relaxation exercises and visualistion for help with martial arts, skrying for images whenever I'm stumped to see if i get an answer etc. Not so much big projects, more like little techniques....

Well, working extensively with hypersigils I've turned my life into the kind of life I always wanted. Ina general, magick has given me a sense that everything is possible, making me more optimistic and confident. It’s also helped me become more creative (or at least helped me tap into my own creativity.)

Hell, it's also made me cooler!

Some (possibly) useful titles:

While we're throwing around titles, I'm putting my money on Sacred Eye for the Straight Guy (or equiv) hitting our screens in the next six years or so.

But I could be crazy.

I'm with Illmatic (and Impulsivelad) on this one - the moments where I sit down (or get up) and think "I'm going to do some magical practice" are extremely rare; it's more as if over the years I've been shifting my daily life into a more magical direction. If I had to summarize, I'd say it's not what you do, it's how you do it.

For example: I've never done any additional magic stuff during my martial arts practice, but I find that MA practice (right up there with sex as far as magical potential is concerned, if you ask me) influences nearly everything else I do.
Same goes for everything else - I almost constantly scribble or imagine sigils, but I've never launched one in the traditional sense, I tend to use them more in a talisman-like fashion. And, sometimes, because they're just fun to create...
I'm very much a long-term worker; it's just the approach that makes the most sense to me personally. I won't go so far as to claim the spider as my totem, but it's definitely an animal I have a very strong affinity with.

(And yes, it has made me cooler as well!)

Ghostwheel, has pretty much summed it up (in my case it's word-fu instead of kung-fu).

Everyone is at least a little "magickal" when it comes to something they love. The real magick trick is using that to influence your entire life.

I have a friend who's a guitar player and he's made extensive use of sonic sigils or acustic sigils (as it's been called here before) that I don't understand... but he plays his life like a guitar.
