I admit complete conjecture on my part but does this look like the work of the Republican Office of Dirty Tricks?

Wednesday's hearing focused on whether the one-year statute of limitations for libel claims had expired by the time Nichols filed his case on 27 October 2003.

Surely filing the case last October wouldn't particularly be judged as "in the run up to the election"? The news just seems to be a desperate-for-news-update about Michael Moore's lawyer asking a judge to dismiss the claims. Perhaps some BBC hack with rather conservative leanings might have thought it would be a worthwhile opportunity, in the light of Fahrenheit 9/11's release, to inform readers of news regarding Moore's integrity being brought into question to some extent, but I can't imagine the Republican Office of Dirty Tricks would see much point in pushing for such a story to be published in the UK.

Fair enough the Republicans have little interest in foreign news but this will be reported in the US as well, most prominently by Fox I would imagine.

Knowing roughly how long these things take to pass it wouldn't suprise me if back then the campaign to re-elect Bush was already thinking of ways to discredit the critics and determined that it would be a good time to enter the suit. It being a couple of days out is probably incidental and a lot of the points in the case don't really tie up.

I'm just postulating though but it's not outside of the realms of reality. Particularly from the office that thought that racism was a perfectly reasonable way to try and win an election.

Of course I'm just inventing a conspiracy theory (hence the comment about conjecture), but it is interesting that this is coming up in high campaigning season though.

To be honest, I don't really see the Republicans thinking that an association- which is obviously going to be inferred- with Terry Nichols ON ANY LEVEL WHATSOEVER (even through his brother) could ever be anything other than a bad thing. Okay, so Nichols himself may be trying this as election spoilage, but I imagine, if anything, BushCorp would find it highly embarrassing. I don't think they want people remembering Oklahoma, what with the terrorists (allegedly) NOT having been those swarthy foreign types with their crazy god.

I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next man (which is why I take such an interest in OKBomb) but this just doesn't add up.
