Double-posting freeze-up

It's happened the last three times I've posted on the Big Brother thread. I press 'Submit', a go-slow ensues, the Barbelith screen appears shattered into lines of code. Refreshing clears it all, but I find I've posted twice.

Anyone else having these hassles lately?

I guess one way of avoiding this is if in doubt open the tread up in a new window and see if your new post is there...

This often happens when a thread exceedes 3 or 4 pages, particularly at high user periods.

sleaze's suggestion is a good one. More often than not, the post has been submitted when the freeze occurs, but you've got no way of knowing. If you're freezing on the post reply screen, you might also want to make sure that you copy the contents of your new post. That way, if there is a cock-up you prevent yourself from having to rewrite everything.

I've got my own little Barbelith-specific posting routine now. Clunk, click, whirr.

Opening a new window is generally what I do do. The last couple of times, however, I seem to have double-posted despite this ie. a single press of Post Reply produces two posts.

I've also noticed that these kind of things seem to be happening more and more often, especially once, as Seldom points out, threads grow beyond the 3 to 4 page size. Are we outgrowing our swapfile or something?

God only knows to be honest. I need to look into our hosting, because it's clearly deteriorating in quality and it costs a fortune.

Is there anyway you an instigate an automatic division of long running threads in the conversation.

I shouldn't imagine that it would disrupt too much.

it seems to happen more to threads that grow massive over mere days rather than over years tho...
