Unconditional Love

i was sat by a canal today, back up against a tree, staring and meditating on the water before a kung fu class in order to become like the water, after a time i started to see faces just below the surface of the water at first formed out of the small stones and shingle at the canal bed, they began to move and change shape there were several of them, male , female, fish faced and others, they spoke to me in my head, id been having issues today, they wanted to cut a deal, they would sort out my problems in return i would offer them something, they were specific i agreed. what i am wondering is does this happen to other people when they meditate next to canals, rivers etc? this wouldnt be the first time i ve had these kind of experiences and i dont really have to try to have them, in fact some days i am in a perpetual state of this kind of communication others none at all.

what do you make of it?

Large bodies of water are certainly "magical"- even a sceptic has to admit they represent the unknown, in as much as water hides things. Just look at the huge body of mythology about the oceans.

Back when I lived next to a river I meditated on the water quite frequently. I found it easy to trance out and have a generally mystic time. But, despite kind of wanting to, I never did see any water spirits. I think I was a little bit too cautious.

I've had a few fleeting encounters with river/canal spirits over the years. There's a rich heritage of spirit lore in the UK around rivers/lakes/ponds - kelpies, jenny greenteeth, peg powler, etc. I'd say you've been quite fortunate. IMO the key to these experiences is being receptive and just going with the experience and what comes out of it.

Australian Aboriginals use to initiate the young men using the energy of water snakes, river spirits. They have a female persona and will greatly accelerate your inner journey if a relationship is started. I begun meditating by a river the Woady Yallock when something like a heat haze emerged from the water. It moved around similar to a snake but was 30feet wide by 150 long. It appeal to me by mental thought seeking my cooperation in opposing the siting of a refuse didposal site in an okld gravel quarry near its banks. I spent 4 yrs opposing the project with success in the instalation of a clay liner and leachate removal. Although I had a very congenial experience with it providing the inspirational energy for the job, however this obsession did cost me my 19 year marriage and loss of family home. Water elementals are powerful beings and I did not consider saying no at any time to the request. This experience did launch my life into the metaphysical maze to the point that I was experiencing much beyond that I could understand. However I started the relationship as a conservative business person who was lamenting just loosing the business, and it did transform me into an environmentalist mystic. Ground which is valuable for self development however is expensively bought and paid for.

There's a Chinese opera about the spirit of the Xiang River falling in love with a scholar, having to persuade her court (she's like royalty) that she's doing the right thing by marrying him, that sort of thing. It's quite the spectacle to see performed.
