Does anyone fancy Duckie this Saturday (16/10/04)?

What it says on the tin. The cabaret act is supposedly Mrs Barbara Nice, but any Duckie regular knows their line-up's very much up for last-minute alteration. At least the music (courtesy of the London Readers' Wifes (sic)) is reliably good: a mix of Bowie, Smiths, glam oddities, bizarre Eurodisco and Carly Simon.

And the lovely Amy Lame is back in these shores. Anyone up for it, let us know.

Ooooh! I have a fun wedding tomorrow but just today I was describing the joy of Duckie...

Next time?

Well, naturally we think of you, Cherry/Cherie, when we plan a night at Duckie; you're the only Barbeloid, other than ourselves, who makes it to the end.

You're in another continent, though, m'dear. We'll be thinking of you - especially if the 'Wifes' play 'Young Americans'...

I take offence at that, you know.

That's true. And that was a particularly good Duckie night too, Loomis, m'man.

Indeedy. Don't forget to give me warning if a Smiths night is in the offing and I will walk 500 miles and then 500 more to be the barbeloid who falls down at Duckie's door.

You know, I danced last night - but I did think, "Hmm, the music at this wedding is NOT as good as Duckie..."

Drawing a veil over my Mergedly Permanent void's more recent drunken paean, I thought I'd revive this old thread to generate interest in this Saturday's Duckie. No particular reason, other than that the music is consistently excellent, the cabaret is gloriously inconsistent (this week it's apparently "Manchester's Vampire Queen", Rosie Lugosi) and I might wear my kilt (just to please the nice-but-strange kilt fetishist who chides us every time we don't)...

It'll be exquisite. Come on Bill, the more the merrier. Then, when you're done ejaculating, come to Duckie. Before 11pm is best. You don't want to miss the weirdy-goth woman.

Tempty - I will check, but I think I may well be up for this, probably arriving early and leaving early, however, for I am having a panda of a week...
When do you normally get there, G.?

Ganesh
12:08 / 17.09.04
Usually 10-ish to 10.30.

Will we be fucking shit up to dance rhythms?

Ganesh
09:03 / 18.09.04
Well, we certainly won't be fucking dance up to shit rhythms.

Does anyone want to meet up before hand somewhere? Like 8ish?

Ganesh
16:39 / 18.09.04
Dunno where we're gonna be then (meeting a friend from Edinburgh beforehand). Will definitely be there by 10.30, though, so if you want to text me when you get to Vauxhall, I'll come find you. Duckie's honestly not that scary, though (unless you're freaked by the gothboy doorperson...).

"So let's eat babies..."

Insufficient time and space to describe the innumerable joys of this week's Duckie, particularly the surprisingly (or not) boogietastic Haus and his wonderfully attired Mergedly Permanency void (whose sexy uniforminess made me wish I'd worn my German police outfit - or at least my kilt). And the Bear was, as usual, attractive to all and sundry - without going so far as to shit in the woods.

And CherieLaBombe was, as ever, a champagne supernova in the sky.

Your all so drunk and yet I am sober - was a good night but not enough Floyd if you ask me

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

God I'm suprised I could actually use my PC when I got home let along find Pink Floyd lyrics, decided to get a minicab home after all, I know I talked to the driver all the way home but I can't remember what about - Tony Bliar I think??

Good night though, Duckie rocks - and there was me a bit nervous about it ending up dancing on the stage - nice...

Today though is all about the hangover, hangovers and William Shatner.

Wow that was great! I don't remember "falling asleep" and I don't remember Bear leaving but I DO remember having a fantabulous time!! What great tunes! I heart the Readers Wifes! And our wonderful Barbemoment with everyone singing and dancing to "First of the Gang to Die'! Duckie rulez!

THIS SATURDAY! The lovely lovely doormen (Martin Kemp and the Gothboy are partners - isn't that sweet?) say we should go tonight, and I'm convinced. Who else wants to come?

And tonight's cabaret was the Featherstonehaughs who were astonishing! Unfortunately their sound system took up half the dance floor but I did my Glaswegian act and preserved our personal space like a drunk in the Sarry Heid. So very very good. Come and fuck shit up to dance rhythms! It won't last forever ands you'll be so sorry you missed it when it's gone, although they do have an Arts Council grant to tide them over next year.
