Ok, I know I accidentally let it expire. I know I was stupid not to pay $119 in the 30-day grace period to secure my domain. But someone snapped it up at the stroke of midnight, and I'm arsed. I managed to buy happeningfish.com (I used to be an .org... it looks so much nicer), and as soon as I get movable type files in gear, It Will All Be Okay.

But I emailed the "admin" of my previous domain and got:

Hello Johanna,

We registered happeningfish.org lately and with plan to develop it.
We've planned to do more work with it in the future. Please send us
serious offer, if you would like to buy happeningfish.org.

I wonder, how many people would like to send them a serious offer? I told them I'd give them thirty bucks, just to see what they reply. My next serious offer might require them to get out the saran wrap. I HATE getting done over by people who can't pay attention to grammar.

My guess is that someone is going to "develop" it into a lame page that advertises a lame, rip-off self-help book. They seem to have done this before with womenact.org. And a whole bunch of other domains. You can tell how much they have studied business ethics by the fact that they didn't even learn the grade-school stuff like grammar.

I doubt this person is going to accept the sum of $30.

fridgemagnet gives me a happy. they still haven't commented on my thirty dollars; perhaps it does not count as "serious offer," or perhaps they (webmaster@colacat.com) are too busy fielding even less serious offers from even more seriously pissed off former web-presence-creating entities.

See that thing Linus Dunce did up the ways, where the link to the site is the words "Lame, rip-off self help book"? Googlebombing is where loads of people create similar links on their pages, blogs, boards, whatever, using the same text. If enough people do this a search for the text string (in this case "Lame, rip-off self help book") will produce the linked site as a result, even if the site doesn't have that text string anywhere on the page.
