Skinny Puppy- The Greater Wrong of the Right

Yeah, so with a couple of exceptional tracks ("Cult", for one...) "The Process" wasn't the greatest Puppy album ever. I think, following Dwayne's death, what they needed was some "time apart". And it shows.

"The Greater Wrong of the Right" sounds like a Download album with vocals by Ogre. Which is, let's face it, what you want from SP these days. It's got a couple of dodgy moments, though even thoughs are growing on me in an endearingly quirky sort of way. So there's nothing quite of the calibre of "Tin Omen", "Worlock" or "Assimilate", but there's a lot that gets close.

This is what I WANT a new Skinny Puppy album to sound like. And it does. (Okay, I thought for a while there that Ogre's voice didn't sound as good when untreated... then they started doing REALLY weird shit with it.)

A great album.

Anyone else got this? Care to comment?

Or, otherwise, wanna talk about the Puppy's back catalogue? Cos, y'know, I'm here!

Saw it at the Cd store but didn't buy it because I thought it was another one of their back catalogue rarity releases... Will have to check it out soon...

On another note, I really like Nivek's side project OgHr (or however it's spelled) though the first album was better then the second IMO.

What I want is Too Dark Park. Over and over again until I die.

I'm not sure what my favorite Skinny Puppy album is. The problem I have with them is the same problem I have with The Cure or Sonic Youth... I like 'em and I have about a million of their albums but I look at the tracklistings and, with a few exceptions, wonder 'How the fuck do these songs go again?!?!" maybe I just haven't listened to them enough.

Actually, my favorite Puppy album is probably "Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate".

"Rabies" is probably my favourite... I just love Worlock.

Just came back from seeing them. Never seen them before, and my Christing fuck, were they good!

Worlock! They played Worlock! I nearly cried. Literally.

Ogre was exactly how I wanted him to be- an ogre, basically.

The only thing that spoiled it was his "thank you and goodnight" at the end. You're FUCKING OGRE OUT OF SKINNY PUPPY, MAN!!! YOU DON'T SAY THANK YOU!!! NOT EVEN TO ME!!!

Truly fucking beautifully ugly. I loved it.

When this thread appeared months ago I hadn't heard this album so I couldn't comment on it. I actually got the album shortly after this thread appeared but for some reason never posted a comment about it. To be honest, when I first heard this album I was pretty disappointed. I didn't like how they didn't use Nivek's "distorted" voice of old, musically I found it kind of drab, and even after repeat listens I still had trouble identifying certain songs in my head afterwards. However, over the last few months I've been listening to it more and it's finally grown on me. Nowhere near as good as their earlier stuff but there are some good tracks here, mixed in with some fairly mediocre ones.

The first song, "I'mmortal", is okay, but the highlight is definetly "Pro-Test", which is really rockin'. "Empte" is very pretty, and "Neuwerld" is probably my second favorite track on the album, with great vocals. "Ghostman" sounds most like a Skinny Puppy track of old, but after track 5 the album gets a little less interesting in my opinion. "dOwnsizer" kinda drags, "Past Present" is a nice dancey number but doesn't really move me, "Daddyuwarbash" is kind of a weak way to end the whole thing: "Use Less" and "Goneja" are pretty good though.

I finally got a tape player for my car and I've been making tons of mix tapes, including a Skinny Puppy one. This has gotten me listening to all the Skinny Puppy CDs I own to decide what should make the cut. "Pro-Test" and "Neuwerld" will definetly be on it...

Hey HEY hey hey HEY hey I had NO IDEA that there was a new SP album out until I saw "Mythmaker" in the shop last week. Anyone given it a listen? It's 10 tracks, so a $6 "booster" on eMusic, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort or just filling space.

Hmmm. I picked it up when it came out but wasn't very impressed with it, TGWOTR was more catchy, whilst MM seams to be a little too morbid and Gothy than I'd like. I'd comment more on the album, but I enjoyed it so little the first time that I've not played it again since. Obviously YMMV.

I've still yet to hear Mythmaker - but they play the UK in August at The Astoria, on Tuesday 14th, so it might be a suitable opportunity to catch them once again.

I have "Mythmaker" but am not that crazy about it... I listened to it once and I can't remember one single thing about the album, which is never a good sign. I'll have to give it a second chance one of these days.
