I don't know whether this is the same thing but the disinformation Book of Lies BRIEFLY mentions Brion Gysin and William Burroughs visiting what may have been similar people but I seem to remember it being in Algiers .....but don't quote me as I haven't the book to hand andit was only in passing that they were mentioned

I also seem to remember Hammer of the Gods, the Led Zep biography mentioning Page and Plant visiting some musicians of a similar ilk

Neither book goes into great detail but if you do a Google search, there maybe articles on the web, particualryl about Zeppelin and their experiences

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but at least that might be a starting point for you

Have you checked out the master musicians of Jajouka?

Gysin and Burroughs both spent time with them and admired their work. The master musicians have collaborated with several different bands over the years. They live in the hills of Morocco, and their music is definitely something you'd never hear anywhere else. That's all I'm saying.

There's lots about them on the web.

yeah gale got alot of there stuff, some of there song titles are about figures regarded as jinn boujeloud who is a goat god, the track Bujloudia 'Bujloudia Dancing With Aisha Qandisha' is a fertility ritual http://www.sexmagick.com/aisha/aq_name.htm

the dance is seen as a form of possession which is similar to the characteristics of gnawa which also involves possession

I found one book on gnawa among other things. It's called "Trance: Balinese Barong, Gnawa Music of Morocco, Zkir from Chinese Turkestan." It's a book and CD, and quite low priced. You probably already have it. If you don't, it's on Amazon and Abebooks.

Searching for gnawa on Hotbot turned up a lot of articles.

Good luck.
