Bollywood Barbe-fest?

As floated suggestively in the Bollywood Star thread , I'm really quite keen to dip my as-yet-unhennaed toe into Bollywood cinema - particularly if we can find some of Mahesh Bhatt's stuff, since he was so impressive on the Channel 4 thang.

Bengali's suggested combining this with an Indian meal out, possibly in Tooting - which sounds very much like A Plan.

Thing is, I've very little idea about places showing Bollywood films; off the top of my head, I can only really think of the cinema in Willesden Green

Anyone up for this?

and

Anyone got m@d Bollywood-in-London-fu 5ki11z?

Not of the top of head, but can get my auntie on the case... As i said, pretty sure there'll be good stuff around Tooting...

Is your auntie, perchance, played by Rupak Mann?

I'm up for it, but I don't know anything really about Bollywood other than the Channel 4 show myself... and an indian meal too mmmmm!!!

I'm surprised invisible_al hasn't popped up here yet, especially as he now lives in sunny Tooting. I'd be up for this and will be shamefacedly part of the "yep saw Bollywood Star and now am interested in what this is all about" crowd.

BiP - It's a shame that Miss Jill is up in Glasgow, she's a sucker for the Bollywood thing.

So when, where, what, who and how - we've already covered the why of the thing!

This will probably sound naive, but I'll bat my eyelashes while I type, so:
I've only seen Bollywood films on video. They had subtitles. Do most cinemas, also? Otherwise I will be delighted by splendid dance sequences and no-snog flirtation, but really buggered on plot.

I retire in embarassment. But yes, I would be well up for meal and show.

I am SO up for seeing Bollywood movies.

They quite often get shown at the Empire Leicester Square (I just missed Hum Tum playing there a coupla weeks ago) and at the VUE Leicester Square (formerly the Warner Village, which is often listed as being in "Cranbourn Street") -- I saw Akosha at the latter when it was out and have noticed quite a few more Bollywood blockbusters since then.

If you flick through the cinema listings in the Guardian Guide or Time Out you can often find Bollywood films. They rarely get the same publicity as other flicks so you have to kind of figure them out by the titles and directors' names. There aren't any specific Bollywood or Indian cinemas, as such, but there's a cinema in Feltham (wherever that is) that always shows them -- though I've never gone because I don't know if the films are subtitled or not. Also, cinemas in Wood Green, Harrow, Ilford and other places out of central London.

I'm pretty sure the Feltham films are subtitled. I've never been to see a bollywood film in the cinema, weirdly enough considering that I semi-grew up on them (semi cos only a few made an impression). Think Feltham is a bit far out for the London 'lithers, though. Not sure where else in London shows them.

Well, um, like I said, you can find out by reading film listings in Time Out or Guardian Guide.

I don't care too much about the distance, we can make a day trip of it and have an adventure.... :]

The only one I know is the Harrow Safari and it's a bit far out North for most of you. I wouldn't mind a trip to Bollywood.
