Publishing work in the UK or the US

Hm. I know we've picked brains about this before, but I'm playing with the idea of tryna get some work in the UK or the US in publishing. I've been working as an editor/proofreader/publisher for almost 10 years in Australia now. I'm wondering where do people in the UK and US look for their publishing jobs? that kind of thing isn't advertised on monsterjobs.com or whatever here - you kind of need to know where to look. One thing to do is also just to cold-call potential employers, but I'm not great on the lie of the land over there.

So. Who's working in publishing here, and who would they recommend I approach, and where do they think is good to look for that kind of work?

cheers

m.

Yes, I think so. Also, many publishing houses advertise vacancies in the Guardian here, I think. But be warned: the industry is hopelessly oversubscribed over here and the pay is rubbish, especially for consumer rather than business publishing, so despite your experience etc. you might find it a bit tough (I think everyone does except the odd fortunate son, basically). Business publishing is easier but often boring or horrid, and not much better paid either...

As kit-kat said, the Guardian is good for job adverts - and the print version even has ads for publishing recruitment agencies (not sure if the online version does this too though).
