Is the use of quotations in the Barbelith forums a sign of being a prententious egotist?

My feelings are summed up neatly in the following quote.

Looking over the fact that Fowler is describing a situation in which quotation is not valuable - when the author is using them to show that he or she is learned or well read - rather than the several in which it is or may be justified, this doesn't seem to be about books, but rather a general query about Barbelith - or, if you are of a less charitable nature, a rather crap joke. I would suggest Policy, but I don't think this is particularly a matter of policy but rather style and taste. As such, I'm going to suggest we move it to the Conversation, where further quotes about quotation can be hilariously added, somebody can quote Monty Python, and I can once again mourn the absence on even the most fully-featured keyboard of a SHARK button.

If the quote in question is a post composed entirely of quotes, or is a quote that a reader has to page down twice to read in its entirety, your kneecaps will be removed and your knees fused so that you will no longer be able to sit at your computer.

My keyboard has a 'shark' button. Pressing it seems, at the moment, to launch the calculator, but as soon as I get round to editing the shortcut it will serve it's intended function of launching a medium-to-large Carcharhinid at my unsuspecting, but entirely deserving, victims.

Haus, I suggest you order a keyboard from the States. They all have SHARK buttons over here.

Admittedly on this model it replaces the letter "SHARK", but who needs to use it that often anyway? It could be annoying in the Comics forum I suppose, but everyone would know what Professor SHARKavier or SHARKorn meant.
