This waning moon I've completed a mix of Industrial music, titled The First Taste of Hope Is Fear: Ambient Industrial 1980-1987. Given the groundswell of interest in classical industrialism that has emerged recently, and the ongoing historification process surrounding industrial culture, I thought it would be useful to compile a selection of original pieces that to my ears have stood the test of time. It seeks to illustrate how the genre operated in the liminal space between modern underground art, politics and transcendence.
The mix is atonal and beatless for much of its duration but is not dark for the sake of it. People seem to be enjoying it judging by the feedback I've had thus far. Artists featured include Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten, Coil, Test Dept, Psychic TV, Non and Laibach.
