The First Taste of Hope is Fear

This waning moon I've completed a mix of Industrial music which both introduces the genre and works as a fairly intense meditational tool.

The First Taste of Hope is Fear: Ambient Industrial 1980 - 1987 parallels the structure of some magickal rituals within industrial culture, especially those of the Temple Ov Psychick Youth. Given the groundswell of interest in classical industrialism that has emerged recently, and the ongoing historification process surrounding industrial culture, I thought it would be useful to compile a selection of original pieces that to my ears have stood the test of time. It might also be a useful ritual or meditational tool for people going through processes similar to those we experienced in the 80s and early 90s, and those interested in magickal experience that sits at the border of occultism, modern underground art movements, and politics.

The mix is atonal and beatless for much of its duration but is not dark for the sake of it. People seem to be enjoying it judging by the feedback I've had thus far. Artists featured include Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten, Coil, Test Dept, Psychic TV, Non and Laibach.

You can download the mix from here: http://www.grievousangel.net/The_First_Taste_of_Hope_Is_Fear_Ambient_Industrial_1980-1987_Mix.mp3

Extensive notes on the music used with pointers to their function within the mix are here:

This is a great mix.

I will definitely give some thought to using it in a ritual context.

Good work!

Lovely stuff, just downloaded it me self. Good sounds, I'm not aversed to the old meditating to ambient noisy stuff. Can't get into the various different whales songs and the usual Eastern stuff you get, lacks a certain type of density. I much prefer the ambient/illbient side of the so-called Industrial genre. Nice one. Probablly use it for no-mind/zazen. Ah bliss!!!!!

Glad you like it gang.

I did think when I'd finished it, "Good -- I never have to listen to this stuff again."

But it's getting me back into it
