Things to do in Brixton when you're (half) dead

So, the train's booked, the gig tickets have arrived and I've got some of them London pound notes. Orbital play Brixton Academy on June 25 and Northern oik Sax will be gazing in wonder at the delights of the capital before going to watch 'em bow out in style (apart from all the other farewell gigs).

Thing is, on a pretty tight schedule, and have to scoot back up the East Coast Main Line on the first train back. So... what's there to do in Brixton between, say, midnight and 6am? There will be two of us.

You find a club, take two pills and talk cod shit to people going to work on the train the next morning.

It's an old school plan, but a good one.

(sorry, this has been no help.)

Well, that's kind of the plan, anyway, because the Academy's open until three (I think Orbital finish up at about 1 or so). Just wanted to weigh the options up.

There are a number of clubs that will still be going around then. There is the 414 on Cold Habour Lane - they do different stuff each night, but it usually House-based stuff. There is the George the Fourth up on Brixon Hill (Brixton Road) that is open late - but I'm not sure of their music policy/schedule. And I'm sure that there are loads others but they are the two that spring to mind.

Does that help?

It does indeed. Are there perchance any nice coffee shops which open all night and which might wrap me in a duvet and give me a cuddle if I'm feeling a bit delicate?

Bar Italia (in Soho but that's just a nightbus away ...) however, the bed situation is not promising. As long as you can sleep all night on a bar stool, on the other hand, you're sorted.

The Living Rooms on Coldharbour Lane is open till about 2 or 3. And doubtless, it being Brixon, you can find a Italo crustie ketaminecore squat party. Just get your face pierced first.

Can you not just get backstage and offer yourself up as a groupie?

Where do you have to catch your train from?

Or "from where does your train depart", sorry... My inner oik is showing.

Kings Cross, at the ungodly time of 7am. Why, do you fancy meeting me in a greasy spoon for breakfast at 6?

The groupie thing might work, but I'm not wearing those welder's goggles again.

Well, if anyone's about in Brixton (or wherever's nearby it in That London), let me know, either in this thread or via PM.

And if this should now go in the Gathering, fine.

Fly - shall us introduce Sax to the joys of the Beano Cafe? And is it even open at 6am on a Sunday?

I don't think we have met IRL Sax, but if you were interested in meeting up in Brixton before the gig that would be cool. I have a rehearsal in Kennington until about 4.30 or so which means I could be in Brixton from 6pm onwards.

Let me know what you think via PM or maybe even start a thread in the Gathering. Whatever you wish.

I haven't met anyone off the board, ever. Apart from Deva, a couple of years ago.

I did want my debut into the world of barbemeets to be nothing less than fabulous, though, and Friday will involve a mad dash into Brixton (my train gets into King's Cross about eight-ish) for the gig and then post-gig madness. I'll pm you.

Waited for our Saxy chum
Don't know why he didn't come

Was he scared we'd touch his bum?

Bum-touching holds no fear for me, Ganesh. However, at 3am on Saturday , post-Orbital, I fear I looked more "bum" than you could have handled.

I told him it was a waste of time busting a gut to finish construction of the dungeon before the weekend, just in case...

Well, nothing for it now but for the Sax Fan Club™ to finalise its plans to invade Bradford and descend upon Mr and Mrs Sax for tea and crumpet.

We sent Ariadne up north to scout out the terrain some time ago but she overshot by a couple of hundred miles and hasn't been heard from since. tsch...
