Just saw the first three episodes of this series from an A&E DVD. Naturally, I much prefer the novel, but I thought it was a good example of producing imaginative fantasy on a very small budget.
As with the novel, it felt a lot like HARRY POTTER for adults. Of course, Gaiman also came up with Tim Hunter in BOOKS OF MAGIC, but I think there was just a similar sensibility and no direct connection between the characters.
The best thing, by far, about the series is the credit sequence at the beginning that through Gaiman's commentary, I learned was created by Dave Mckean using a 16mm camera and his computer. Has McKean done any other motion picture work? |
