Pimping for a writer

Technically speaking 'pimping for a writer' doesn't make sense, but it's less dull than 'looking for a writer'

I really want to get back into drawing comics so I'm contemplating doing some smallpress. Problem is I haven't got any scripts. So if someone has a story that suits my style get in touch (I'm only interesting in short 5-6 page stories, no 23 part mini-series, sorry).

You can judge my style by looking at my website, basically I like drawing odd people in odder situations. If you have any scripts or characters that are a bit ‘strange’ then I’d love to draw them

Hi

Your stuff looks great. I write and draw comics myself, but I'm more of a prolific writer than I am an artist, and so have millions more story ideas than I would ever have time to draw. Have a look at my website:
www.molotovia.co.uk

There's various comics in a variety of styles on there that I've written. I definitely think I could put something together that compliment your style of drawing. PM me if you're interested in working on something.

I just sent you a script and I’m notorious for getting most of the Barbelith talent pool to draw my comics so don’t resist… just ease into my clutches. Muahahahah!

But if this is not the kind of thing you had in mind it’s cool.

Wow, I'd kick myself if I didn't jump at this oppurtunity. I've never written a comic script before (well, once when I was about 9, but I could only get my freind to illustrate about 2 pages of it) but I frequently write short stories and film scripts (you can see one of my stories here, but I must say, it's not really my best work, just one I needed some help on). Fortunetly though, I specialize in strange characters and situations. Feel free to send me a message any time.

Thanks to everyone who sent scripts and offers etc… there are quite a few so it may take me a couple of days to get back to you. Also I’ve had offers to work on so many different projects/genres my head is spinning, so perhaps its better to narrow it down.

I’ve been following the Jenny Everywhere project with some interest, so I’d love to contribute to that. My favourite comic writers are Peter Milligan and Grant Morrison, so I’d like to do something along the lines of Mirkin the Mystic/Rogan Gosh/Doom Patrol, you know weird visuals and characters but with a human heart.

I only pop in and out of Barbelith occasionally so what’s this ‘open-source universe’, is it a whole host of characters like Jenny who are copyright ‘free’?

No, there's really only two.

1) Jenny Everywhere, who's a couple years old now, better established, and who you're following so there's no need to explain.

2) Quinn T. Sense, who it much newer, to my knowledge has no comic work completeled and only exists in prose at the moment. And Quinn's deal is it walks into a town, city, country, planet, feels out the area, and fills the void in terms of ideal. So if the place needs the perfect hero, Quinn becomes the perfect hero. If the place needs the perfect school teacher, Quinn becomes the perfect school teacher. Sex, Race, Nationality, Age is all meaningless... the only consistency is a pair of mismatched eyes.

Hi, I'm interested but I've never done a comics script. Is there anywhere on the web a chap can go to see one? Is it like in American Splendour?

Actually there is a wide range of Public Domain characters you can use with impunity including Octobriana and the entire cast of LOEG...

oh and Spring heeled Jack a genuine Victorian pop-culturalfigure sometimes seen as a villain - sometimes portrayed as a vigilante (who pre-dates batman by some 100 years...) The Brilliantly tallented Dave Hitchcock is currently doing an excellent Springheeled Jack comic - check out the link for a review and a few review pages...

If you're at all interested, I've put another one of my short stories up on Barbelith. You can read it here.
