Exiles 48

What can I say? Bedard, the new writer, makes Austen look good...
Nocturne has to stay in the 616 reality (normal marvel) while Beak has to go with the exiles... because "The beak needs every hard lesson (...)as an exile in order to pass that ultimate test" (to save several worlds)
Angel does get to throw a tantrum, because she thinks Beak left her and the kids
It looks so much like that old dungeons and dragons cartoon... now the time broker can do his every whim like the dungoen master.
the only part that left me wondering was who meets Nocturne at the end of the comic: "I didin't know YOU"D joined the X-men..."

I dunno, Beak wandering the multiverse wearing Xorn's helmet and wielding a magik* sword. Could be cool...

Barnell Bohusk, Wanderer: Have eggs will travel.

Does not sound cool at all.

Read it in the store. Frustrated and saddened, overwrought as that might sound. Beak's story should've ended with NXM if they couldn't use him better than this.

See, the thing is, I find it much easier to pretend the whole NXM saga DOES end when Morrison left. Much as I thoroughly ignored Doom Patrol when it continued after Morrison's heartbreaking final episode.

On the one hand, I think it's awesome that Beddard took the one character 90% of X-Fans wish would die (Newsflash, Pre-Morrison X-Fans HATE Beak) and made him a key player in his book.

On the other hand, that was kind of a horrible way to go about things. Perhaps Beak will be the one to finally shut "Timebroker" down.

YES. Ditto that with Xorn and Fantomex and Sublime and everything else in Grant's run, except for Joss Whedon, who is at least trying to respect Grant's stuff.

I've actually been loving this series since i started picking it up with #46. I'm a lot less annoyed by the writing than most people seem to be. I think its great that Beak, of all the X-Men, gets to be the one to join this team. He deserves some rediculous adventures. What better super hero training for the kid could there possibly be than jumping around the multiverse for a few years? I dont think this character will have any trouble living up to the legendary status grant gave him in NXM 154.

Its not the best comic ever made, but i am looking foreward to reading more of these.

Does that mean Beak will have to return to 616 eventually to fulfill his Askani-like prophecy?

Beak = the new Cable.

It's hardly the shits now is it?

I'd much rather see "the fly, the bird and their offspring" ongoing than Sliders mk III (or whatever version this is since Winnick left).

Man, I wish Beak was the new Cable.

For the curious... Beak has furfilled his 'destiny', which turned out to not be something ultra serious or character changing.

Also, some great lines of Beak talking about Angels big fine brown booty pop up here and there.

I really like this book, its always a fun read. (But you probably have to have read alot of them to make sense of it at times.) I think by the way the story is going, it seems like they are either turning a corner or wrapping things up.

The pre-Morrison X-Fans hate Beak? Why? Because he isn't a sexy spandex soap opera character? I though he was impossible not to root for. Like when he went after Magneto with a baseball bat. "Angel! Kids! get behind me." That may have been my favorite part of Morrison's whole run. What a ballsy little bastard.

Beak rocks. Next issue they're going to try and take him home, unaware of what Scarlet Witch has done to his reality. Should be interesting. By the way, the last two issues have had me in stitches with the Kaiju Big Battels and the return of Red Ronin! The writing in this book was slowpaced at first, but now this book is always a fun read.
Can't help but notice, we haven't seen Angel or her children in some time... Are they still living at the mansion?

well, since she lives in Mr. Logans old cabin raising her kin, I assume she lives on the outskirts mostly, whatever reality that may be I suppose.

(otherwise known as the outskirts of continuity)

Hmm... I wonder if Angel and the kids will survive the post-House-of-M cull?

Will Marvel really kill a bunch of little kids?

And yes, Exiles is a lot of fun again! The recent "Timebreakers" storyline was great!

btw, for those who predicted that eXiles would venture in the great wide world of the boring house of M crap, you were unfortunatly right.

I really hate house of M.

Picked up an issue out of the blue and it was kinda fun. 2099 Spidey's in it, teaming up with Longshot, and the Exiles who've been in the book for awhile, and being led by Power Princess from Squadron Supreme. They're battling Proteus who has taken possession of 2099 Hulk body, and are on the Hulk Maestro's earth. This title must be annoying to the casual reader, but having followed Marvel for awhile it's kinda cool stuff.

This was the kind of series I really liked as a kid, though. The fact that they end up doing random things with a changing cast of characters tends to leave readers with more to discover as you can use your imagination to fill in the gaps or track down the comics these characters are from and figure out how things work together. There are a lot of Claremont-style blurbs about who a character is, what their powers are, and a lot of expository crap that has little to do with the plot.
