Locked threads

The 'Edinburgh' thread seems to be locked - and I'm pretty sure there was another I couldn't get into lately. Any reason?

Strange, ain't it?

Someone should do something. There should be a rule about it.

But did you wiggle your fingers when you said "mysteeerious"?

I just put in a request to unlock it. The starter asked for it to be deleted, but that never went through...

Right, basically, I got a request yesterday to delete it, can't remember who sent it but they said the thread starter had asked for it to be deleted. I agreed to it, and sent a seperate mod request for it to be locked, as I'm now functionally paranoid about what could be going on in threads that we can't see on the board.

However, someone after me must have disagreed with the deleting of the thread, whilst someone else agreed to the locking of the thread. Baz Auckland asked this morning for the thread to be unlocked, which I disagreed with as the thread starter had started a new thread, though his abstract made reference to the previous thread being mysteriously locked, which either means he asked for it to be deleted and forgot, or whoever sent me the original deletion request was mistaken about the thread starter asking for it to be deleted.

As there was a new thread, I asked for the old, locked thread to be deleted.

So, should I stop worrying about what might or might not be going on in threads which people can't see on the board? I'm thinking that moderators should lock all threads that are going to get deleted so that people don't find them using the search option and get involved in shenanigans, if we deleted but didn't lock a thread for anti-semitic content, we wouldn't want people to continue posting to it as it could presumerably also be found by Google would we?

In this particular case, it was a bit weird. There were duplicate threads... by the time I got the request to delete the original one (the one in which deletion was publicly requested), people had posted to it, so I moved to delete the other one. I think that may be where the confusion occurred.
Then the third one appeared, which wasn't ACTUALLY a duplicate of the first/second, just very similar...

One seems to be working now, though, which is nice.

Mea culpa. And apologies to TTT, and any mods who were confused.

I must write this down now or I fear I may go mad.
My god! The deleted threads are BREEDING in the unexplored, toxic depths of the Barbesea!
And I am more than faintly disquietened by the vague suggestion of "shenanegans".
Who knows what shenanegans lurk in the heart of men?

Can we just pistol whip Lord Morgue anyway? Y'know, for kicks?

Lady of Flowers: Have you tested your theory about deleted threads being Googleable? I don't think they are -- I've tried with a couple ones I know are deleted, and they don't show up.

They're full-on ghosts.

Hello!
Now, admittedly, this worked because I knew the title of the thread I was looking for. But it can be done.

This is an alternative.

So is this.

Weird -- the ones I know were all from before the board became Google-able in general. I wonder if these things all fade out of Google's cache after a month or so, or if they just keep on keeping on....
