Hey there, i'm on a computer course, and actually out of my bedroom.

I still feel like an alien.

Good stuff. What are they teaching you?

I'm doing HTML at the moment, and will soon be learning how to use Frontpage, C programming, Javascript, something called ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) and possibly CSS, Dreamweaver and the ins and outs of Windows XP/XP Pro.

So.......i think i'm gonna be busy.

You should try doing something that doesn't involve sitting in front of a computer as well.

Have you thought about playing tennis? Don't know why, but the idea came to me. Or if not that, something that involves being active and outdoors might make you feel less like an alien.

Yeah, i've started drawing, going to Kung fu and going out with my mates more.

Also reading loads of comic books and have just read Valis last week. I'm going through Grant M's New X-Men run, i'm off to get New Worlds today (3rd TPB of that run), it's fucking cool!

Apart from this place i'm not spending that much time on the computer at all, and i'm drawing quite a lot of stuff from comics in an attempt to learn to really draw, which is hard. I used to draw as a kid quite a lot and then i stopped, so i'm catching up again.

That's really bizarre man! that's, almost to the word, exactly what i'm doing at the moment! (not the computer course, tha kung fu or the mates, but everything else!)

Oh, from the thread title I thought you might be doing walking or something worthwhile, but computers eh? Hope that works out for you, in the few years remaining before they become self-aware and our new masters. Then no-one will mock my attempts to look more computer like by covering myself in silver and gold glitter. It worked for Seventies Doctor Who baddies, it could work for me.

It will work for you. Take that as prophecy. Glitter will come to pass.

You know, glitter never made me think of the apocalypse before now - something about the heavy bell toll of that divination. Maybe those vials the Christian god drops from the sky are full of... glitter!

Though I'm still betting on crack. What else can you smoke at the end of the world?

In relation to this thread - did you like Valis, Firewave? I love the description of 'Valis: The Movie' that PKD writes into the book. It just screams 'David Lynch? Child's play.'

Ever read any of his other stuff? Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep seems better than the movie version by a nose.

Yeah i thought Valis was brilliant, i like the way Horselover Fat's philosophy runs through the story and the way he never gives up searching even when others think he's totally lost it. I haven't read any of Dick's other books but i'll probably get more in the future. I'm obsessed with comics at the moment though and am learning to draw from them. I totally love Ethan Van Sciver's art and couldn't believe it when i ran a search in the Comic's forum and found the first thread was by Ethan himself!

WOW.

Do it. They rock a snow leopard's ass. Especially "A Scanner Darkly".

Didja get the whole "Philip = lover of horses, Dick = 'fat' in German" thing? (I have to admit, I didn't when I first read Valis.)

...Out of the house and straight into another building where there is also a computer.

Firewave, have you tried going out into the country and just looking at sheep for a while?

An electric one?

Nah, ignore me, i understand the value of getting out of the house. I remember when i was a kid and i went to Wales and climbed the second highest mountain. (anyone have the name of the second highest moutain in Wales?) It was one of the most amazing things i've ever done.

Actually, i think i'm attuned to nature a bit anyway, when i've been sat in the house too much i go for a walk in the feilds just near my house or go for a jog around that area and i feel a lot better, maybe something to do with me being an earth sign?

Nature ROCKS.

you should totally camp out at least once for summer.
take a friend or two, and leave the drugs* and electronica. no shaking the foundations of reality for a giggle.
no computer, no mobile(or turn it off), no stereo.

i wouldnt even take a torch, to be honest.

get the fire going good and early, and sit round it talking shit and telling stories till you need to sleep. sleeping outside is even better if the weather affords you the luxury of sleeping without your tent, but this may be impractical.

*this aint no detox plan. not physically, at least. if you feel like nicotine and a few beers are essential, go for it. (i'd be wary of the weed, though)

Don't get too caught up in the Fat's long, rambling, frighteningly obsessive exegesis, Firewave. Dick was never sure if he'd gone mad.
